University College Hospal for those who don't know-

Background - I fell a couple of days ago (passed out briefly) on my way to the loo to vomit (sorry TMI) fell heavily and hit my head. As I work at a hospital, my colleagues said I really should have it looked at. Of course I didn't. I had no double vision, was fine after being sick (as a result of a virus going round, not cos I fell).

Decided though the next day to go to our walk in after my early shift. They were pretty good but said they thought I should go for tests and xray at UCLH.

I got there at 4.30 and knew I was in for a long wait when I saw the amount of people waiting (plus over the tannoy it said about a 3 hour wait!).

To cut a long story short I had several BP tests (BP always sky high), blood test for glucose, blood tests for heart and ECG and that important xray for where I bumped my head (same place I bumped it before - eye socket). There were all very friendly and approachable, had a good sense of humour but all told me off as I don't always remember to take BP tablets (I know, I know!). They were very though indeed.

Well, I eventually got out at Midnight!!!! Luckily I had two paperback books with me!

I am just glad that all the tests (apart from BP) were fine and xray was ok too!

I didn't mind the wait at all . I work in a hospital myself and that afternoon I had nothing much to do anyway. The only hard thing was trying to get up for my early shift this morning!

UCLH are amazing. I am under the care of their rheumatology department and the care and support available are like nothing I have seen before. They are always offering other services - podiatry, hand therapy, physio, hydro - completely different to my local hospital.

I can't speak highly enough about them.

Hope you are feeling better today Flowers

Even on the ward the staff are really friendly, approachable and fab senses of humours.
I’m a regular in there and someone who annoys everyone else in a&e as I’m usually in a cubicle within 30 minutes of walking in.

Yes thanks - I was better once I had 'chundered'. It is a rotten virus going around - my work mate was off for about 4-5 days with it- headache, aches all over, sickness etc etc, also sensitivity to lights. All I had was a slight headache and then an hour after her shift finished I thought "Oh no" - that familiar feeling you get in your mouth when you are about to vomit.

I hadn't been to UCLH before though I have walked past it (and applied for jobs!) many times.

I would not hesitate at goig again. I nearly didn't - I thought well I feel ok but am one of those people who only go to the dr or hospital if really ill.

Good to know other people appreciate them too!

I went to their a&e before when I got stuck in a loop of near continuous migraines. Fantastic care and a Dr who gave me the best advice on managing migraines I've ever had (high dose asprin). Solved the problem and has helped me avoid multiple migraines in the future.

I was at the urgent care centre at the Whittington yesterday (also London) and the staff there were also doing a great job with some challenging patients too. However, I did wonder how they cope at really busy times as I don't think there would be enough staff. They were great in the past too-I gave birth there and they fixed my broken arm (twice).
I don't have any personal experience of UCH; I know it's very busy due to it's central location.
I'm off to the Royal Free today for a follow up from yesterday so hopefully they are good.
Hope you're on the mend OP

Well let's hope the NHS is never put in The Donald's tiny hands!!
