Tooth Extraction Sedation

Has anyone had a tooth out with sedation? I'm booked in for two weeks time and nervous/keen to know what to expect.

Also anyone know what the deal will be with breastfeeding after? I'll call the hospital tomorrow but just wondering if anyone has any experiences they can share.

My DH was sedated for dental work last year. He was really out of it for the whole afternoon and slept it off. There's absolutely no way he would have been able to hold a baby that day afterward.

I had a tooth out recently. My lower molar in the very back. It was out in seconds after one numbing shot. Easy.

@Pippapotomus thanks, I've got my partner to deal on the whole with DS straight after. I'm so nervous that I'll get sick. I was really sick with anesthetic having DS

I have had it. It is not like anaesthetic, no nausea, but you are away with the fairies for a few hours afterwards, someone will have to watch the baby for you. It is a strange drug rather like date rape drug you remember nothing during or afterwards.

I had this recently. Can't remember a thing but was apparently very happy but very sweary afterwards. DP put me to bed and I slept for 14 hours. Woke up feeling fine except a bit dehydrated!

I have had 4 extractions under sedation (2 separate occasions). My second experience was much better. You just nod off and wake up. Second time I came round much quicker and was in a better head space than the first. It was bliss though

LanguageAsAFlower · 05/06/2019 22:34

Well I'm starting to look forward to this now. Haven't slept more than 4 hours in a row since DS was born!!

I had one out last year, top back, so injection to roof of mouth. I am a complete wuss (with very patient long suffering dentist) The whole thing was over in seconds. Being careful afterwards to avoid dry socket was more of a big deal.

Yeah I've had tooth out by injection, that's not this. I asked for conscious sedation as it's complex and the dentist said it would be better

Yes, I've had this. I had to be referred by my usual dentist, as it's not offered everywhere.

I was told I might not remember the procedure, but I felt conscious (but relaxed) and was aware throughout.

I felt the sensation of the tooth coming out, but no pain.

I had to have someone with me on the premises to drive me home. It was fine, and I'd recommend it.

Yes can’t remember it at all. I can remember going in at 6pm next thing I’m home in bed and awake at 1pm

Ferfeckssake · 06/06/2019 06:05

It will be fine. I have had it a few times. In fact , deliberately sought out dentist that provided it.
You are aware, but no pain at all. And no sense of time - an hour felt like minutes .
And lovely deep sleep when you get home and put to bed. Tell DH to count you out for the whole day.

SinkGirl · 06/06/2019 06:08

Wish I could get it now as I need lots of things doing and I’m too scared to even go

When I lived in London I had dental work done at Guys under sedation and it was absolutely bloody wonderful. Didn’t remember a thing.
