Help with ring sling (pics)

My baby is 20lbs & 5 months old. I've got a couple of slings but even when I wear him high it feels like he sinks and doesn't feel secure.
Where am I going wrong?

The rings need to be higher up your shoulder, so the doubled up fabric fans over your shoulder more. It should be more secure that way.

Here's a photo tutorial. I loved my ring sling but it takes a bit of practice. If you have a sling library nearby they are usually able to help you.

It looks like there’s still a fair bit of slack behind his back in the middle. You need to tighten across the whole width of the fabric - easier to see on a striped/multi-colour fabric.

Also echo the suggestion above, you should have the rings higher on your shoulder/collarbone. Start with them higher than you think they should be, on top of your shoulder, and then they move down slightly as you tighten.

I like Wrap You In Love or Wrapping Rachel on YouTube for video instructions, if you find a visual guide more helpful.

If you can possibly get to a sling meet or similar then real life help will be so much more helpful, but as an attempt:

  • start with rings higher, right up on your shoulder
  • put baby in sling, tummy to tummy or on your hip if he has good head control
  • support his weight with a hand on his bum and pull the fabric between his legs and your body to make a seat. Fabric should extend kneepit to kneepit. Still supporting his weight, tighten the bottom rail by pulling the lower edge of the tail. When you remove your supporting hand he should be in an M shaped position with knees higher than bum. Make sure that fabric goes up at least as far as his armpits.
  • then, starting at the shoulder opposite the rings start to gather up any slack and move it towards the rings. Once all of the slack is next to the rings, tighten the top rail by pulling the top edge of the tail.
