What was this rash and where did it go?

Last night DD 13 complained she had a really itchy rash and it was everywhere.

When I looked she had big red patches some feeling hard as if swollen under the skin along with huge patches of what looked like and felt like a really bumpy nettle rash - it covered most of her torso front and back. She said it was really itchy with a burning feel

She felt otherwise absolutely fine so gave her an antihistimine pill, sent her for a cool shower and then used almost half a tube of antihistimine cream on her.

I was worried so got up every hour or so through the night to check on her but she seemed to be sleeping well.

This morning rash was gone as if it had never been there. Not a trace of it. I was all set for her needing a day off school and a trip to the GP.

Sorry I've got no photos but has anyone any idea what this could have been. I'm flummoxed

Sounds like hives. As to what caused it - no idea, sorry!

Could be several causes; heat rash, allergic reaction, stress-induced hives?

Hives/urticaria

Can be a response to a known allergen or trigger such as exercise/heat but can also happen for unknown reasons.

Thank you for replying.

Its a very strange thing. I've never seen such a huge amount of rash on an otherwise perfectly well person

*Bringthethunder" I had no idea you could get stress induced rashes but I wonder if you've hit on the right thing? Our poor little cat got hit by a car and killed on Sunday morning and dd was distraught and is still understandably very upset. I'm now wondering if that could be the explanation. :( :(

cottonwoolbrain Yes, I suffer from them on occasion and so does my DD9. An online search describes it:

What does a stress rash look like?
"Stress rashes often take the form of hives, also called wheals or welts. Hives can appear anywhere on the body. Areas affected by hives are generally red, raised, and swollen. These blotchy areas can be as small as a pencil tip or as large as a dinner plate.
Sometimes these patches may connect to form even larger welts. These wheals can range in size from less than a centimeter to big patches covering large areas of the skin.
Hives can also appear as general skin swelling that develops in one place on your body. This section of swelling may disappear and then appear somewhere else.
Areas affected by hives will likely itch. You may also experience a tingling or burning sensation when touching the affected areas.
A single hive generally fades in about 24 hours."

Sorry about your cat :( That might well have something to do with it.
