How long have you been in your role?

I got a lovely letter today from my employer congratulating me on 15 years service. Pretty much everyone in our company has been there 10 years plus.
I haven't done the same role the whole time but I have been within the same team.

How long have you been in your role and what is staff turnover like in your company?

I've worked for the same organisation for 17 years now.
Staff turnover is huge- the general consensus is that people burn out after 5-7 years.
No acknowledgement from management until you reach 20 years though!!

DramaAlpaca · 04/06/2019 21:58

I've been there 8 years. Staff turnover is very low, it's a small family friendly company & only a couple of people have left since I've been there.

lambfish · 04/06/2019 21:59

11 years

WhereForArtThouBray · 04/06/2019 22:02

It's nice to be part of a long serving team isn't it. I literally wouldn't know what to do anywhere else now, I have been there so long.

We get a letter every 5 years, and extra days holiday after 8 years and a gold clock (or gift of equivalent value) after 20 years.

24 yrs but about to put my notice in any day now. Got offered another job for more money.

xSharonNeedlesx · 04/06/2019 22:07

Ive been with my organisation 12 years and in my current job role for nearly 6. Turnover in my particular team is quite high at the minute and staff are a bit demotivated and not very happy.

WhereForArtThouBray · 04/06/2019 22:07

Congratulations! It must be quite daunting to leave after all that time?

I have often heard that to get more money you need to move about but I check peridocally and I am paid the going rate for my position and I am not yet qualified to move up a rung. I have moved up several times internally.

I’ve been with my company 18 years. I hope to keep this job until I retire.

WhereForArtThouBray · 04/06/2019 22:10

Do you have long left @purpleartichoke?

I have at least another 34 years I think. There have been several within the company that started on a YTS and stayed until retirement.

I’ve been with my organisation 19 years, my department for 5 years and my team for 1 year. I think I get a certificate and a present in the next year or so. I’ve previously thought seriously about leaving but there are benefits which outweigh the negatives. In any case, I like my current team/role.

Mumof1andacat · 04/06/2019 22:17

My mum works in a school and has been there 29 years this year!

escape · 04/06/2019 22:18

Just 1 year for me atm. It's an organisation with a mixture. Mainly people in certain departments have been there longest. Up to 14 years some of them. Essentially pay is quite low and other departments attract first & second jobbers who move on after an average of 2 years. The ones who stay tend to be those settled locally with families.

Waiting1987 · 04/06/2019 22:19

Almost 9 years

AnneElliott · 04/06/2019 22:22

I've worked for the same Government Department for 19 years. I've done 11 different jobs in that time though.

WhereForArtThouBray · 04/06/2019 22:24

It's nice to hear about people who are happy in their job. It makes life so much easier when you don't dread work.

The company i work for are very big on work life balance and majorly flexible which helps to retain staff I think.

Congratulations, what a nice letter. It’s nice to know these companies still exist too.

DappledThings · 05/06/2019 07:10

7.5 years but that includes 2 x maternity leave.

Last organisation (my only other one) was 10 years. Just before I left a colleague retired after 45 years. Started in the typing pool at 15. She had seen quite some changes!

happypotamus · 05/06/2019 09:51

I am a nurse. I have worked for the nhs for 13 years, all of them in the same hospital. I have worked on the same ward for 9 years. Only 4 people have been there as long or longer than me. Staff turnover is high, it is a very challenging place to work.
