On chrome taps and shower doors to get rid of limescale?

I have had to cancel my cleaners but don't know what they used and the taps and glass shower doors were always sparkling.

The cleaning agency I used to use insisted we buy Viakal for this. All their staff used it.

BiteyShark · 04/06/2019 09:20

Thanks, will order some and try it.

Not a professional cleaner, but this stuff: www.amazon.co.uk/HG-Professional-Limescale-Remover-concentrated/dp/B000IU3VRG/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?s=gateway&keywords=limescale+remover&sprefix=limescale+&tag=mumsnetforu03-21&qid=1559636456&sr=8-3 is THE best. Gets taps like new. Used it on my toilets when I first moved in which were thick with stained limes ale 🤢 sparkling in a few hours.

BiteyShark · 04/06/2019 09:34

Ooo think that HG one might be really good for our toilets so ordered that as well.

Thanks for both tips. The bathroom cleaning was so much better than I used to be able to do and I am sure it was that they knew which products to use rather than the general cleaning stuff.

It works really well on shower screens as well, I sort of paint it on with a sponge and then leave for a few hours. The limescale/cloudiness just wipes right off.

I’ve had to give up a cleaner recently also, so feel your pain! I miss coming home to sparkly toilets.

keepingbees · 04/06/2019 10:00

How do they wipe the limscale stuff off? Ive got a large glass shower cubicle and whatever I use, and I've tried Viakil and similar, I wipe off with a damp cloth and it smears and looks terrible. Do you need one of those rubber blade things?

gamerchick · 04/06/2019 10:03

wipe off with a damp cloth and it smears and looks terrible

After rinsing do you then use a dry cloth/kitchen roll to dry and buff to a shine?

Pushpull · 04/06/2019 10:07

Wilkinson's sell glass cloths and my cleaner suggested I get them. They make the world of difference in stopping smears

keepingbees · 04/06/2019 10:28

@gamerchick no I don't, is that where I'm going wrong?

smeerf · 04/06/2019 11:02

Every cleaner I've ever had: Viakal. You have to use it with two cloths, one to scrub the product (after it's sat for 5 mins as per instructions) and one to wipe away the water after you've rinsed. E cloths do a 2 pack bathroom set (they're green), the fluffier cloth works for the scrubbing and the shinier dark green cloth works to get a shine. For glass panels in the shower I user a window scraper squeegee thing before the second cloth to remove most of the water.

BiteyShark · 04/06/2019 11:41

Looks like I am going to have to experiment a bit to get them sparkly Grin. Tbh as long as it gets rid of the limescale I would be happy as we have really hard water here Sad

Viakal and a mircrofibre cloth to buff up

twirlypoo · 04/06/2019 11:54

Was coming on to say Viakill and microfibre cloth. It’s the buffing with the cloth afterwards that makes all the difference - I own a cleaning agency :)

Very · 04/06/2019 13:15

Another vote for Viakal and microfibre cloths. You can rinse most of it off with the shower hose, if you have a hose (and not a stupid massive fixed ceiling shower rose. Fuck I hate those things, water tipping all over my HEAD ugh)

gamerchick · 04/06/2019 14:33

@gamerchick no I don't, is that where I'm going wrong?

Yes, buffing it dry makes all the difference.

Fluffycloudland77 · 04/06/2019 15:26

Spend £4-500 on a plumbed in water softener and you won’t get scale.

It’s what I notice when we go to a soft water area, the shower screen doesn’t look frosted after one shower.

ShyShy07 · 05/06/2019 10:57

Hi
I've had a wet room done plus additional shower screen. I've tried everything going to clean glass with no success. Until I used a product by mistake.
I have found this is the best product ever n cleans in five mins.
First of all I use a rubber squeegee to get excess water off, leave for bout half hour, then spray 'Method Rhubard' anti bacterial multi purpose cleaner, then use microfibre cloth then window cleaning cloth then ' success'
Hope this helps

implantsandaDyson · 05/06/2019 12:48

Yup Viakil and buffing -Grin - I leave nothing wet when I'm cleaning. I'm was a cleaner but I still keep my hand in occasionally. Viakil is on offer at Tesco atm.

The other thing to remember that your cleaners were also good at their jobs. It was a job not a household chore. I helped my sister clean her house before a move. I was quicker, cleaner and did a much better job than her even though we had the same products.
