baby names for twins

One boy, one girl. Me and DH agreed that he'd choose the boy's name and I the girl's. I have my heart set on Caitlin, but spelt Caitlynne to be a bit more original. DH wants Angus John which I don't love but we'd probably shorten it to AJ which I think is nice.

Anyway, I'm not sure if the names go together or not? I don't like when people name their twins really similar names but I want them to kind of go together if that makes sense!

The names are nice but please don't choose a unique spelling!

HerondaleDucks · 03/06/2019 20:36

Please call her Caitlin not Caitlynne no one will ever spell it correctly and it will drive her potty.
But I think Caitlin is a lovely name and I think it goes with Angus.

BentBaastard · 03/06/2019 20:39

Do not choose a youneek spelling.

My friend’s daughter used Sofie for her daughters name despite her mum, a former headteacher, advising her not to.

It’s been the bane of her life and her daughter is only 2.

Caitlin and Angus sound lovely.

If I had twins tomorrow they would be

Theo and Beatrice

margarquita · 03/06/2019 20:42

Really? I know loads of Caitlins (and a few Kait/Katelyns) and thought it would be better to stand out! Also I think the ending of 'lynne' is pretty.

I wanted Elijah/Elliot for a boy.

Theo and Beatrice are lovely! So sophisticated!

I’m having boy/girl twins and really struggling -Caitlin and Angus sound lovely together.
Not matchy matchy but complimentary .
AJ and Caitlynne do not go together well at all IMO,sorry.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 03/06/2019 20:45

Caitlin and Angus are lovely names. AJ is a great nickname. Don't ruin things by feeling like you have to be 'a bit more original'... You obviously have good taste in names, just leave it there Smile

Soola · 03/06/2019 20:45

As well as no one spelling it correctly it also looks on paper as being a hillbilly spelling.

Stick to Caitlin which is a lovely name.

HerondaleDucks · 03/06/2019 20:45

It's not better to stand out if no one can spell your name correctly and you spend your life spelling it out for every single thing you need to verbally state your name for.
Caitlin is a lovely name it doesn't need a new way of spelling it for it to be pretty.

Aberforthsgoat · 03/06/2019 20:46

Like Angus and Caitlin but really dislike AJ and Caitlynne

Special spellings always cheapen a name imho and they are a pain for the owner of said name as they are constantly having to correct spellings

Aberforthsgoat · 03/06/2019 20:47

And I say that as someone with a “special” spelling of a name - I hated it and got it changed.

FlibbertyGiblets · 03/06/2019 20:47

Ip and Dip.

Billy and Libby.

James and Anne.

NoNoNoOohmaybe · 03/06/2019 20:48

I'm not keen on the unusual spelling but love Caitlin and Angus. Awesome names, really.

I've got twins, I struggled to find something that "went" but wasn't matchy, and wasn't a mouthful when saying it hundreds of times. Who knew I seem to only like really long names!

dreichuplands · 03/06/2019 21:16

Don't mess with the spellings, you will just make your dd's life more difficult in the future.
Caitlin is a nice name.

SmarmyMrMime · 03/06/2019 21:38

After years of supply teaching and encountering hundreds of fed up teenagers with mangled names, just go for the usual spellings. Caitlin is unusual (but not dated) for this age group it doesn't need youniqifying. Angus is great as it is anyway and the two names work together.

In the internet age, too unique is not necessarily a good thing anyway.

Sparklyring · 03/06/2019 21:39

Caitlin and Angus are really lovely, Caitlynne and AJ are chavs.

AmyFl · 04/06/2019 02:31

It's not necessary to stand out.

Guylian2019 · 04/06/2019 05:46

Oh for goodness sake.

Fantail · 04/06/2019 07:17

Angus and Caitlin are a lovely sibling set. Caitlin isn’t that common a name AND if you decide on an alternative spelling then it’s only when it is written down when you notice. If you say it, it doesn’t sound any different. If you really want an unusual name, pick a less common one with a standard spelling.

If you want an unusual name for a child then picking one like Mary or Jane or Joan would actually stand out.

I also like the sound of a nature name with Angus: Daisy, Willow, Wren, Robin, Zinnia, Lily all sound good.

formerbabe · 04/06/2019 07:38

You gain nothing by spelling it differently.

It is still pronounced the same and when people see it written down, they'll judge.

Parker231 · 04/06/2019 07:47

Why choose a spelling for a name which no one knows and your DD will spend her whole life correcting everyone. You can’t choose a nickname, they evolve. We have b/g twins and decided on names we liked, they don’t go together or match as DS and DD are individual people.

Rememberallball · 04/06/2019 08:05

We went through choosing names based on whether our twins will be 2 of the same (being careful here as we know what we’re having but are not telling family) so we have 1st and 2nd choice girls names and 1st and 2nd choice boys names. If it’s one of each then it’s 1st choice girls name and 1st choice boys name. We are lucky we both like traditional names with conventional spellings so haven’t really argued or disliked any of the options.

LuannC · 04/06/2019 08:10

Caitlynne and Angus john are nice.
If you wanted a different take on caitlin why not have Kate-Lynne ?

ElizaPancakes · 04/06/2019 09:27

Well to buck the trend I think Angus is horrible and probably shouldn’t be used if you’re not Scottish. Obviously you don’t mention if you are....

Not a huge fan of Caitlin either tbh. I had a friend at school called Ajay so if I heard it I’d assume an Asian heritage.

I am an outrider though on most of these threads as I don’t like the very middle class old man and old lady names particularly. Mildred was an offering on one thread that I cannot get over!

Ormally · 04/06/2019 09:30

Caitlin and Angus = Irish and Scottish names if this is meaningful.
Caitlin is the Irish (Gaelic) variant of Catherine/Kathleen, so the spelling relates closely to that.
