Should I be worried about DD's toes?

DD is three and today I noticed that she has really odd toes when standing (I'd only really looked at her feet when cutting toe nails etc so hadn't really paid that much attention to them when she was stood on them).

Anyway, should I be worried about this?

I've included a picture.

Mine do that, I also don’t have a proper nail on my little toe. It means my little toes don’t stick out the side of sandals which is a perk.

PregnantOnPurpose · 03/06/2019 19:21

What's wrong with her toes? They look fine.

I have weird toes, my little ones only have one bone and no joint so they can never bend.

I used to be really self conscious, still cant wear scrappy shoes but now me and my friends laugh about it

Pringlemunchers · 03/06/2019 19:21

I would take her to the gp, just to get them checked .

It could cause issues with the bones and walking etc. Maybe she will need corrective insoles.

Smellbellina · 03/06/2019 19:25

We all have bendy toes in my family, I didn’t know it was odd but it hasn’t caused any of us any problems

EdWinchester · 03/06/2019 19:25

I would take her.

It looks like she's not using the pads of her 4th and 5th toes?

Celeriacacaca · 03/06/2019 19:25

A chiropodist might be worth a visit. DS has uneven toes and it stemmed from poorly fitted shoes - Clarks I'm looking at you. Now he's fine but had it not been picked up may have caused issues.

InTheEndgameNow · 03/06/2019 19:29

Not sure it's that clear on the picture but basically her two smallest toes are bent sideways so that the bottom of them doesn't touch the floor.

DD has 'banana' toes like that. Drs said they would probably sort themselves out as she grows, they havent, shes 10 soon however they havent caused her any problems either.

Singleandproud · 03/06/2019 19:30

I should say DD was born with toes like that if it is a new development then maybe a trip to a Dr is worthwhile.

InTheEndgameNow · 03/06/2019 19:31

Singleandproud banana toes is a good way to describe it!

There are at least 8 members of my family that have toes like that, my mum's actually tuck under the ones next to them

Not sure you can do much to straighten toes and does it really matter if they aren't big toes?

InTheEndgameNow · 03/06/2019 19:44

Thanks all. Seems to be a mix of responses but I guess it's more common than I realised.

We only have straight toes in my family...however some of them are webbed!!Grin

Dp has tor’s exactly like that, he has dyspraxia however so his balance isn’t going rest, not that dyspraxia causes bendy toes but anyway

Try cotton wool between her toes when wearing shoes?

Throughabushbackwards · 03/06/2019 20:20

Ballet teacher here - we tend to know quite a bit about little feet.

The bones in childrens' feet don't full form until they are in their late teens. That's why we won't put anyone on pointe (in "toe shoes") until the age of 11 minimum, and even then, they should do a lighter workload until the age of 14/15.

So, I'd make sure she spends lots of time barefoot over the summer to let her feet move and develop freely, and make sure her main shoes are supportive and properly fitted so they don't constrict and bend her toes over.

Bluerussian · 03/06/2019 20:21

Toes look alright to me.

2pointfourmonkeys · 03/06/2019 20:43

My 8 yr old has 4th and 5th toes which bend and curl, plus the top half of her very long 2nd toe bends over the top of her big toe. We've seen podiatry bit only because she was complaining of pain. Podiatry said they weren't concerned and t come back when she was older if it became an issue.

They also said they probably wouldn't do the corrective surgery that I was offered (and declined) as a teen these days.

Basically, its a variant of normal until its affecting them doing stuff.

Witchend · 03/06/2019 20:56

I've a genetic issue with my feet where the toes curl under each other and a high arch. It hasn't caused me any issues, but my brother did throw his ankle badly for a time which they thought was connected to the genetic issue (which was how it was found).

I go barefoot (well sockfoot) most of the time (as anyone from work will tell you) so going barefoot won't help if it's genetic.

Fluffycloudland77 · 03/06/2019 21:06

Kids toes can be curly but they straighten out with age.

Neversaygoodbye · 03/06/2019 22:08

We saw a specialist with my daughter when she was little a diagnosed "curly toe". As mentioned above, he wasn't worried unless it caused her problems with shoes etc. He said it quite often corrects and as a 14 year old her toes are now straight. She does have very wide feet & we've been careful to always go to a reliable shop for shoes, even now.
