Cat got to pizza

mylittlenugget · 03/06/2019 16:29

So I live in an upstairs flat with my own front door. I had the door open as I was putting washing on the line and downstairs cat got into the flat. I had some leftover pizza out and it's eaten 3/4 of a slice.
Will it get poorly? It's clearly very hungry and so is their other cat that tries to get in to my flat so kind of want to say something but under the disguise of "oh your cat got in and ate some pizza so may get ill" but I doubt they'd care. What would others do in this situation?

i doubt as a one off it will hurt the cat as long as it hasnt got loads of onions on it as cats and onions do not got together very well and some cats are lactose intolerant so the cheese on it may give it an upset tum,

Catsingangs · 03/06/2019 17:12

Onions and cheese aren't suitable for cats, but a small amount as a one off probably wouldn't cause kitties too much of a problem, maybe a dose of the squits. If the owners won't be fussed, I'd probably say nothing.

heartknot · 03/06/2019 17:13

My cat loves pizza....he's not allowed it, but occasionally a piece gets left out accidentally and he's on it before you can blink! He's always been fine.
He also makes out he's starving and we never feed him, despite 2 good meals a day, treats inbetween and whatever he catches in the garden or cadges off the neighbours!

It'll be fine, my four horrid cats do this all the time, nasty wee fluffetsGrin

mylittlenugget · 03/06/2019 17:14

It was a ham and pineapple and pepperoni half and half type one from dominos, the majority eaten was ham and pineapple with a bit of the pepperoni gone.
Feel bad for the cat but I guess if it does get poorly I can't prevent it. Poor thing only had kittens about two months ago (owner hasn't got either of the cats done so they can't breed) and I doubt the owner will even notice if she gets ill. Hence why I'm not sure if I should say anything because it won't make any difference

The cats are definitely hungry - they're left out all day and night, and I often hear them crying to be let in/fed but never are. If I was allowed to have cats in the flat I'd let them in in the poorer weather conditions as even when it's stormy or snowy they're shut out.

She'll more than likely be fine.

My cat ate some cheese and onion rolls that were cooking yesterday and is often found scavenging in a bin! Are you sure she's hungry? Cats will scavenge and beg for food.

HunterHearstHelmsley · 03/06/2019 17:17

Cross post.

IHaveBrilloHair · 03/06/2019 17:18

One of my cat's favourite food is mushrooms, she goes mad for them.

Soola · 03/06/2019 17:19

Our cat will tell every member of the family that she’s starving despite being well fed.

That pitiful look and crying and looking like they last had a meal four months ago is typical cat behaviour.

Our cat once ate four chocolate croissants overnight and was fine. The pizza will have gone down a treat and is unlikely to make her unwell.

LesserBohemian · 03/06/2019 17:20

My cat LOVES cheese, ham and pineapple. He’d be absolutely over the moon with a pizza for tea!

SgtFredColon · 03/06/2019 17:20

Poor cats Sad.

mylittlenugget · 03/06/2019 17:23

She did try to get back in as I first posted so maybe pizza is her favourite too Grin
I won't say anything to the owner this time but if it carries on I'm going to have to, I can't be expected to keep all my doors and windows shut just in case I get a cat wandering in, especially considering how hot it is and I'm due a baby in 6 weeks! I understand cats are "free range" and they can't be controlled/kept out really but she can bloody well keep them in more if it's the fact they don't want to be out.
The one who had kittens was chucked out two days after giving birth!

Poor cats. Well I would start feeding them for starters. And can you arrange to get them done yourself? I doubt the neighbours would mind as long as they don't have to do anything or pay?

If you're in London/Essex I can help.

ChesterDrawsDoesntExist · 03/06/2019 17:29

If you'd have seen some of the things cats have stolen from my house and bin you'd think pizza was a treat 🤢.

We had a colony of farm cats lived around us and they would regularly steal food if they managed to get in our house or bins. They'd eat ANYTHING.
They lived.

mylittlenugget · 03/06/2019 17:29

If I feed them they'll surely keep coming back? And whilst I don't want them to starve I also don't want to encourage them coming into my flat.
Can't afford to pay anything towards them either, I don't get any maternity allowance and it looks like it's gonna be next month I get my first UC payment.
I've considered reporting to the rspca but would they even care?

thecatneuterer · 03/06/2019 17:30

And if you're not in London can you contact your local rescues (not the RSPCA) for help/advice? You can find your local rescues here: www.catchat.org

thecatneuterer · 03/06/2019 17:30

Are you in London?

mylittlenugget · 03/06/2019 17:30

Ooh thank you!

OP posts:
mylittlenugget · 03/06/2019 17:31

No I'm in Dorset sorry forgot to say

OP posts:
thecatneuterer · 03/06/2019 17:31

There are lots of free neutering schemes. Any local rescues should be able to advise.

ChesterDrawsDoesntExist · 03/06/2019 17:31

Yeah don't feed them. They're not your pets to feed and as you say, they'll just keep coming back.

Years ago I had a cat who most of the houses in the neighbourhood thought was theirs. They all adopted the "poor hungry abandoned cat"

She wasn't hungry. Or abandoned. She was greedy and played them all for fools.

Yukka · 03/06/2019 17:32

Cats LOVE Pizza. And Pringles. And Garlic Dip. Cat will be fine.

Yes they will keep coming back if you feed them, but if you're worried I would just pop by the neighbour and say that the cat got in and started stuffing its face with your stuffed crust and see what they say. You can suss out the situation a bit more.

Also - cat could be on a diet for medical reasons, don't assume the worst. Chat to the neighbour casually.

thecatneuterer · 03/06/2019 17:34

Sent you a pm

mylittlenugget · 03/06/2019 17:35

I've emailed one of the charities with a quick outline of everything, hopefully they can help.
I've heard of cats playing people like that and that is why I haven't fed them earlier or let them in to my shed or anything but when the kittens were born I was so shocked and it was then I realised just what bad owners they are (newborn kittens were being held by humans, all sold very quickly, mother out within two days and then out every day since).
