Reasoably priced London hotels with a separate kids sleeping area?

Hi wise Mumsnetters.

I'd like to take the kids to London one weekend in the summer. They are 4 and 2. Does anyone known of any London hotels that are reasonably priced (like max £200 for the night) that have a separate sleeping area for the kids?

At the moment I'm either finding apartments to hire (which are about £400 a night) or regular hotel family rooms (which means we're all in the same room and because the kids are so young having to put lights out at about 8pm, which isn't much fun for me and DH)!

Thanks, KitKat.

Finding a room that sleeps 4 for under £200 in summer is a tall order! Generally we've had success in the past finding holiday inns that have 2 room suites (just never in London as we are day trip distance), look out towards Earl's Court perhaps, Gloucester rd maybe, or Greenwich the other direction, the city of its a weekend for better deals. The normal price is over £200 for a standard twin in the centre, even at the travelodge

Hmm, maybe I'm being a bit optimistic about this then. Maybe I'll have to ask DH if he would mind going to bed at the same time as the kids as just a one-off to bring the cost down so we could stay in a standard family room personally going to bed at 8pm sounds brilliant to me

We normally stay in a premier inn and take it turns on who goes to bed with the kids and who goes to the pub with a book!

There’s no need for you both to go to bed with them?

Novotel do inter connecting rooms and kids stay and eat free. Usually pool on site and kids play stuff in the lounge

Love Novotel!

Oh great thanks will check out the Novotel hotels. :)

we've never found anything on budget either. we've always done lights out at bedtime, and then as MrsAmaretto says, when the kids are properly asleep one of you sneaks off, and the other should get away with low volume TV or low light reading in the room.

KitKat1985 · 03/06/2019 08:42

Yeah true. To be honest I'm more than happy to have a one off early night (knackered most of the time anyway)! If DH isn't happy he can always go out whilst I put the kids to bed.

What about an Airbnb, where you can have the whole property? That way you can have separate rooms and a living space to use when the kids go to bed

mindutopia · 03/06/2019 09:35

I would look for an Airbnb. You should find plenty that have a separate sleeping area for your budget. I'm assuming you intend to put them both in one room, or do you need two separate rooms? At any rate, there are lots of 2 bed flats, some which have a sleeper sofa in the lounge, so you could put both in one room and sleep in the other or put both in separate bedrooms and sleep in the lounge. I had to book one in November for several days in Battersea which was 2 bedrooms with separate lounge and kitchen and was £90 a night. It was by no means the only one in that price range, so you surely should find plenty if you look.

I stayed in a really nice holiday flat in Greenwich for not all that much money about four years ago. Two bedrooms and a living space. Try Greenwich :) Then you can use the river bus to get around as well which is cheaper AND easier with prams.

KitKat1985 · 03/06/2019 12:27

Oh thank you yes I'll look at Greenwich too, and Air B&B. x

I'd say AirBnB will give the best options for that price.

It could be worth looking at university accommodation as many of them let out rooms over the summer for quite reasonable prices. You might be able to get an entire flat.... although you might end up with DH and you in single beds!

Often hotels in the city can be cheaper at weekends as it is so quiet but I am afraid I have no idea if they would be less than £200 for a larger room...

Oneminuteandthenallgone · 03/06/2019 13:09

Much cheaper to stay Sunday night, often they have a Sat/Sunday offer. Friday is next cheapest and Saturday most expensive

Oneminuteandthenallgone · 03/06/2019 13:10

Look at the Hiltons (lots of different brands) out towards excel/canary wharf. They can be cheap and some have interconnecting rooms
