Avalanche in india

DH just received an Email from a friend saying that his son is missing in the mountain avalanche.
DH is very upset of course but neither he nor I know how to respond.
It was a cc.Email to all of the friendship group (all in their 60/70's) so not too close but we have adult children of the same age.
Can anyone give me an idea how to respond? I'm usually very articulate but for some reason, I can't think of anything that doesn't sound a bit trite and my lovely DH, who knows the family is unable to word something as is very upset.Thank you .

DH has been following the news of the missing climbers closely as the expedition leader is someone he’s admired and respected since he was a teenager.

I would suggest that your DH express how much he’s thinking of the family and will support them through this awful time of not knowing, as much as he can.

I would suggest something along the lines of:
Dear x,
I can only imagine how you are feeling at the moment. We are praying hard/keeping everything crossed that (son) is found safe and soon. I won't ring unless you want a chat, but know I/We are here for you and sending every bit of hope we have.

Quite honestly, there is nothing really you can say, but obviously a response is needed. How awful for the families.
