Can't face work tomorrow

Lots of crap going on at home (started an AIBU earlier but no one replied!) and I just feel really stressed and worn out and sad. I had a little cry earlier about it.

I know that if I go to work tomorrow I will have to deal with people (ugh) and can't deal with polite chit chat abput my shitty weekend. Plus I'll just be thinking and worrying and not concentrating.

I'm thinking of asking if I can take 2 days leave. I'm not sick so I don't want say I'm ill, but just to use some annual leave days. It's not great timing because I'm away for 3 days next week so already due to be off then.

Would you ask to take a day or 2 as holiday?

I went to read your sink woes. Yes, if work will give you the time off take it. Give yourself chance to get sorted at home.

In fact I'd just say you need to be at home for an emergency plumber to come out. They'll understand it's one of those things, and definitely not a lie. Plus it avoids asking for personal time in what case they may be a bit oooh what's up? You don't need to get into all that. Hugs

Plumber coming out day 1 to bodge it - fix it properly day 2 after new part arrives 😉 2 days annual leave requested. Sorry for the short notice.

VodselForDinner · 02/06/2019 22:19

OP, I mean this kindly but...

How will sitting at home for two days without a tap and running water help?

Leobynature · 02/06/2019 22:23

You are having a shitty time right now. I can relate to home ownership problems. They sound like 1st problems but it is a nightmare when your living it.
Just keep swimming! Carry on looking for decent plumbers or vet anyone the insurance company puts your way. You will find someone. It’s inevitable.
In the meantime if you can’t face work then take some time off to look after yourself.
Eat, drink and watch crap until you are ready to face the world again. You could go into work and tell people about your shitty weekend, you will be amazed at the amount of people who can relate and the support you will get maybe helpful.

I've had to take so many days off or working from home due to problems with this building work over the last year that it's embarrassing to ask for more. I'd rather say that it's personal problems. Anything but admit yet another issue has come up. I don't think anyone believes that work could be done so badly.

Vodsel, it might not help if I can't get anyone out to fix it but I know that going to work the way I feel at the moment isn't going to do me much good either.

If you need to be home for the plumber, then you need to be there.

But if you don’t, just go to work. Your future self will thank you when you are having fun days off, not mopey days.

sosickofitall · 02/06/2019 22:28

Unfortunately people at work aren't supportive. They all have people who can sort stuff out for them. None of them are ever stuck like I am, having to resolve everything on my own. They don't get it. And of course its all gone on for so long it just sounds like I'm making it up.

I haven’t read your other thread but sounds like you should take out plumbing insurance. When I had water shooting out my kitchen sink a plumber came out within an hour.

We decided to take it after we had a leak from the ceiling and couldn’t find a plumber to fix it. We kept being let down and because it was a bit of a ‘tricky’ job no one wanted to do it. The insurance now gives us peace of mind.
