Hello, does anyone know where I can get the best deal on Euros? I need about £800 worth and have two weeks.

You can look online for the best deal, and they will deliver. I've done that a couple of times when I had to pay for a gîte rental in cash.

Otherwise we just pay by card, or get cash out of ATMs when we're there.

John Lewis usually have the best in-store rate.

If you don’t need actual cash then Revolut (like a bank account using an app on your phone) is great. They always give a better rate when you convert money.

Buy online and collect at airport.

They’re much of a muchness (in other words, crap) but you often get a slightly better rate by ordering for delivery or collection. I’ve used Debenhams and Eurochange for click and collect recently.

If you are anywhere near London, there is an exchange shop on Victoria Street by House of Fraser. I found it was the best value place by far when I was looking for Euros in December. I live in the Midlands and the exchange rates were crap compared to any in London though - I went down one day that I was working there for mine.

This tool from the moneysavingexpert will tell you where you can get the best rates on any given day, depending on how much you need and whether you want collection or delivery.

Open a Starling account now and you'll have the card in a few days. Pay your£800 into the account and use that to withdraw euros abroad or pay by debit card.

Exchange rate is a few percent better than the currency exchange rate and more secure.

TheFaerieQueene · 02/06/2019 18:49

The Post Office is often a good bet.

Rememberallball · 02/06/2019 18:49

Best rate we found was Debenhams with online ordering and in store pick up. A recent report on tv also said this was one of the best ways to get currency.

SisterMaryLoquacious · 02/06/2019 18:53

The MSE link posted above will point you to the best place - probably a scruffy little kiosk somewhere in Central London. Reserve the money in advance to get a slightly better rate, but don’t pay until you collect. Pay in cash - if you pay by debit card you’ll get charged an extra fee by them.

GrumpyCatLives · 02/06/2019 19:57

Yeah, it looks like Debenhams have the best rate both in store and online.

Was going to say Debenhams to. Always the best rate from there.

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 02/06/2019 20:25

Bit late for now, but Halifax clarity cc, fee free atm withdrawals and interbank rate (better than tourist rate).

Take cash out when overseas, use app to see how much that converts to and transfer from your bank to cover it immediately.

amusedbush · 03/06/2019 09:59

John Lewis still has a better rate than Debenhams, as they usually do. I've actually never seen Debenhams/M&S/the Post Office offer a better rate than John Lewis.

TreacherousPissFlap · 03/06/2019 11:32

We use the Post Office travel money card.

It has an app that I can just transfer money from my account onto, then either use the card as a debit card or withdraw cash from the ATM.

I've always had the fear of wandering round with hundreds of € shoved in my pocket, this way I know the money is safe.
