hi my little boy has just turned six he had a blood test and found out he had low iron stores so has taken a iron liquid they prescribed. The doctor couldn't find a reason and doesn't want to test again they aren't concerned about it just said one of those things. The thing that confuses me is he isn't a fussy eater and the doctor said they didn't think diet caused it. So I'm just looking at ideas to keep his levels up he likes all meat and has red meat a few times a week, he likes eggs will eat eggs few times a week ( maybe should increase this? ) He likes most most fruit and veg and always gets over his 5 a day he loves broccoli and has spinach or other green veg daily. Doesn't like citrus fruit but likes berries, apples, bananas ECT. He eats fish weekly least ( although not oily ) He doesn't love nuts on their own but will eat a few if given he will also eat nut bars or say peanut butter in stirfrys. Drinks water or milk. He does love cheese , drinks milk daily and probably has a yoghurt every day. He is on smaller side for age , very active , but often looks a bit pale , dark under eyes( always wakes too early) I have got a multivitamin with iron so will start this but does anyone have any ideas ? I wondered if he's not eating enough but always asking for food , saying hungry ect and I always give him something ( He doesn't eat huge amount of packed lunch at school as rushing out to play ) but eats good lunches at home.

My DH has low stores of iron, b12 and something else (don't remember). He eats red meat every day but his body just doesn't process those votamins as well out of the food. It happens. Eating red meat every day keeps hus levels on the low side of normal most of tge time. It can be just one of those things.

I had low iron levels as a child and was eventually diagnosed with coeliac disease. It might be worth investigating.

Yes, ask GP if they tested for coeliac disease, my son had low iron stores and was pale and had dark circles under his eyes, as well as some other symptoms and was diagnosed with coeliac disease last year. Don't cut out gluten until they have completed all tests, otherwise the tests won't work.
