Simillar here, and the neighbours are having a very loud party

GiantKitten · 01/06/2019 22:53

Did you have them open during the day as well? It’s really best (esp when it’s muggy) to keep windows/curtains closed on hot days & only open them late on when it’s cooler outside.

Hope it cools down for you soon Smile

Ugh I'm getting flashbacks to how hot my London flat used to get! Ultimately, having air conditioning is totally worth it. 1000% recommend it!

In case any of these are useful:

Definitely leave your windows and curtains closed through the day.

Are you able to leave windows other than your bedroom open at night? Getting a breeze going really helps.

If you're lucky enough to have sash windows, make sure you're using them properly for circulation:www.theguardian.com/education/2003/aug/06/highereducation.uk1

If you have wood floors, wash them as evaporation will promote cooling.

I used to sleep under a light cotton scarf that I'd rinsed under a tap and squeezed out. Sounds utterly ridiculous, but it cooled me enough to sleep.

The sash window air movement thing is amazing. I wish we had them - house is Victorian, but they were long gone when we bought it, & new ones would cost far too much.

We lived on Long Island years ago & our bedroom had 3 sash windows, 2 facing S & 1 W. We had one of those big square box fans, which fitted in the bottom half of a window, & we originally used it blowing in, but our neighbours told us if we had it blowing out it would suck cool air in through the other 2 open windows, & it did!

I was very impressed Grin

I'm in a loft conversion room. In the heatwave last year it got to 32degrees. No combination of closed curtains/Windows during the day and vice versa helped. I feel your pain.

Come to Scotland! I've got bed socks and a wooly jumper on Grin

I’ve got a hot water bottle. Over 20 I wish.

ArcheryAnnie · 02/06/2019 01:46

I am here to point out that if we go the way of the US, and all get aircon, we will use a ton more energy and accelerate the climate change that is giving us extremely hot weather in the first place.

It's not a sustainable solution.

I use those blue freezer packs that you use for picnics. One under the pillow is amazing - you can turn your pillow over from time to time to get a cool spot, and when you are way too hot you can show your hands under the pillow for the relief.

I’m wide awake and also boiling OP. London too. I’ve got the fan going in the baby’s room and I’m sweating my tits off in my room. Gro egg shows 26 here.

OldAndWornOut · 02/06/2019 01:58

Someone gave me a good tip last year of filling a hot water bottle and putting it in the freezer, so you can use it to cool down in bed.
