Toddlers drink/beaker at the airport

I've taken cooled boiled water through in a flask previously, but can I take my toddlers full sippy cups/beakers through security or do they need to be emptied first? I was going to freeze his water so it stays cooler for longer but don't want to run into any unnecessary troubles.

No, it would need to be empty. You can buy cold bottled water once through security though and on the plane

Cherylshaw · 01/06/2019 22:49

I took 2 full sippy cups on our flight there and back 2 weeks ago and they were fine both times, they were in the changing bag and they never looked twice at them

Deccax · 01/06/2019 22:57

Can’t you just fill them up once you go through security?

I can empty and refill once through, tbh I'm traveling with a toddler and a small baby and I'm just trying to make things as easy as possible. Shops are nightmares with the double buggy and a willful 20 month old.

I would just take it and if they ask you to empty it then you can and refill it when through security. I saw 3 other parents take juice cups out after security to give to their kids and all was fine but maybe it depends on the airport?

Not sure that this is good advice. You may get away with it but if they are found at security you risk losing the cups as well as the contents. Airport security is stressful enough without worrying about cups of water being confiscated.

Will your toddler drink from a 'sports bottle'? I would take a throwaway plastic bottle to get you to security and then fill the sippy cups on the other side. Most airports have water fountains.

@RomaineCalm
I didn't hide them away they saw the cups when putting the bag through and taking out our toiletries they just weren't fussed.

stucknoue · 01/06/2019 23:32

There's usually a water fountain past security or ask at the coffee stand.

I've always been fine taking my toddlers drinks and food through. They might want to test it

GlamGiraffe · 01/06/2019 23:38

Ok can take it. they put it in a machine to check for poison or explosive particles coming from it. Children's drinks are fine now.

SockQueen · 01/06/2019 23:43

I accidentally left a full beaker of water in DS's bag going through security, it got flagged up and we had to empty it. Allowed to keep the cup though.

RomaineCalm · 02/06/2019 00:10

@Cherylshaw

Apologies, I didn't mean to suggest that you were hiding anything. Only that security is massively unpredictable - different airports, different times of day, different staff may let certain things through.

The rules are that liquids over 100ml aren't allowed through security with the exception of baby milk, expressed milk and baby food. The safest option is to take empty cups for a toddler through security and fill on the other side.

updownleftrightstart · 02/06/2019 08:25

We have flown from two different airports recently and both were fine with full sippy cups. They just had to take them off and test them.

TheBabyAteMyBrain · 02/06/2019 21:25

Well I was rather ambitious in what I thought I could achieve in preparation with two children who hate sleep... Completely forgot about the possible beaker issue, and automatically popped them in the bag in the morning full with water.

They were fine with the drinks at security (Manchester Airport) and requested any toddler/child's drink containers, full or empty had to be checked.

So last minute panic about something I completely forgot about and then was fine anyway. Grin
