I’m looking to book something a bit last minute for end of June - we are in the south east and won’t have a car so want something we can hop on a train/trains to.
Budget is pretty flexible and we love places by the coast or places of interest, where you can hike and explore and have easy to reach restaurants and pubs.
We’ve been to Brighton recently and now my brain is blank!
Anyone been anywhere that fits the bill? Happy to fly as well (we’ve previously flown to Edinburgh and Glasgow).

Thank you!

Rye is lovely with nearby beaches as well.

Do you like town or country? The Peak District is quite accessible by train, then there's historic cities like Bath, York, or go for other cities you wouldn't think of, Nottingham, Leicester, Birmingham all have things to offer less than 90 mins from London and aren't as crowded by coach parties like Oxford, Cambridge and the like.

We like both, prefer the seaside or places by the water. Having said that I really wanted to go to bath last year and forgot all about it!

The New Forest? Lovely walks and pubs and you can visit Lymington or Bournemouth one day if you want to be by the sea.

Stratford Upon Avon or Cambridge. Both have lovely riverside walks, museums, boat rides, places of interest, quaint tea rooms, ramshackle streets, individual shops, traditional pubs and posh restaurants.

Isle of Man - short flight lots of walks and outdoor stuff to do, lots of cafes and bars

Newcastle, train right into the centre of town. Lots to do and see, galleries, museums, a huge number of restaurants. A very short train ride will take you out to the beautiful coast, Tynemouth is especially lovely.

Tenby in Wales. Countryside is beautiful.

NancyJoan · 02/06/2019 08:05

Lymington, in the New Forest, is lovely.

Love Bath, but it will be very busy in July/August.

BarbaraofSevillle · 02/06/2019 08:17

Isle of Man would be a great idea.

Or the Peak District somewhere on the Hope Valley line, which I think goes from Manchester to Sheffield, so connections to anywhere in the country should be pretty good and there are stations in several villages with good walking trails, including the start of the Pennine way (Edale, also Hope and Hathersage.

Llangollen in north Wales is a nice small town/large village and has a station, canal, walks, pubs and that sort of thing, but not sure how practical travelling around the local area is.

Singlenotsingle · 02/06/2019 08:50

We've got the same problem. First week of July off but nowhere booked. Dublin's cheap if you stay in Airbnb. Otherwise Tenby, Yorkshire Dales, Liverpool's nice but we went at Easter

Caswell Bay on the Gower coast. Beautiful. We stayed in a chalet there and it was fab.
