I'm out watching the game later so probably won't be on here but does anyone fancy a build up thread?

My nerves are in shreds, I'm working this morning but can't stop checking my phone for team news etc Confused

Pleased for the fans that Liverpool scored a goal and not just the early penalty. Spurs were the better team but lost 2-0 and that is football.

AnnaComnena · 01/06/2019 22:19

But those who don't get what football's all about should look at the faces of those Liverpool fans singing YNWA.

derxa · 01/06/2019 22:21

Man of the match? Alisson. Yep Well done Liverpool and Jurgen

Rubbish game. Spurs should have been more confident in going forward. People are cheering and fireworks are being set off left, right and centre!

BornandBredRed · 01/06/2019 22:32

Just about to celebrate with some Liverpool gin! Gin

PoptartPoptart · 01/06/2019 23:20

@AngeloMysterioso

Well, my DH is an Arsenal fan so he’s happy... he actually said it was more important to him for Spurs to lose today than it was for Arsenal to win on Wednesday!

What a delight your DH sounds.
He would rather his own team lose than see another team win? That’s not a true fan. Not a very sportsmanship like attitude either.
He sounds like a knob.

DaanSaaf · 01/06/2019 23:37

I see this thread was more exciting than the game after I left Grin

Not much to say is there really. We've won it 6 times GrinGrin

Oo-er... a touch bitter are we Poptart??

I’m currently pregnant with our first baby... he said he doesn’t want our little Bean to be born into a world where Tottenham hold the champions league trophy Grin

Besides which he never realistically expected Arsenal to triumph on Wednesday as they’ve apparently been dismal for some time now, whereas until today Tottenham had had quite the lucky streak! (or so I’m told. I don’t actually give a shit)

Bean is due bang in the middle of the Rugby World Cup (or, as I call it, the proper World Cup) so I’m hoping that’s a good omen and s/he’ll take after me and follow a decent sport, unlike Daddy Grin

1happyhippie · 02/06/2019 00:05

As a neutral, that was a rubbish game to watch. At one point I was wondering if both teams thought there was a second leg in this final 😂
Spurs were the better team on the night, just didn’t take their chances and hurried their shots. The penalty was dubious. But whatever, it was given so. I am pleased there was another goal though, a final that was hyped up the way this one was couldn’t have ended 1-0.
Well done liverpool. They have had a cracking season. Interesting to see what next season brings.

Chesneyhawkes1 · 02/06/2019 01:05

@AngeloMysterioso I agree with your DH!

PoptartPoptart · 02/06/2019 09:17

@AngeloMysterioso no not bitter at all.

If you see my very first post at the beginning of this thread it will show you what type of fan I am.

Of course I’m disappointed because Spurs are my team, But fair play to Liverpool.

But I just cannot get my head around a true fan wanting their own team to lose more than they want their rival to win.

Banter between teams is one thing and actually some of the songs that they sing to each other are hilarious. But bottom line for me is respect for everyone.
If your DH takes more joy in others losses than he does in his own team’s successes then he is not a very nice fan and quite pathetic imo.

foreverone · 02/06/2019 09:28

Poptart I think you do sound bitter tbh. What PP has said is how most hardcore fans are which is pretty normal in my experience.

feathermucker · 02/06/2019 09:34

PoptartPoptart · 02/06/2019 10:00

@foreverone I am disappointed of course, but not bitter. I have no idea how you are drawing that conclusion from my posts.

Maybe it’s because I’m not a ‘hardcore’ fan as you mention. I don’t take joy in others failures. I find that whole mentality (on and off the football pitch) very mean spirited.

I didn’t sit there on Wednesday night willing Arsenal to lose. I didn't have any strong feelings either way tbh, I just enjoyed watching two English premier league teams being in a final. Just like I did last night.

I wish Spurs had won, of course I do, but they didn’t. It’s not the end of the world by any means! My life is not going to change because of a football result. And people who get overly invested and start putting other teams down (even wanting others to lose more than their own team to win) are idiots imo.
Like I said before, fair play and well done to Liverpool.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 02/06/2019 10:05

Interesting to hear how Klopp avoided to say outright what a Hmm game it was. He certainly seemed to be only 'whelmed'.

But a win is a win. Yay.

liverpoolreds · 02/06/2019 10:16

Poptart maybe it's the essays you keep
writing telling people your not bitter that are making you sound bitter GrinGrin

PoptartPoptart · 02/06/2019 10:30

@liverpoolreds ok then... whatever

RedForShort · 02/06/2019 10:58

On a slight tangent: can anyone tell me the significance behind some of the teeshirts a few of the players had under their liverpool tops.

Spotter a few at the end which seemed like help a message - one player was showing his to the camera.

(I've no clue to who's who, I was only there to bring my son and his friends out so they could watch it!!)

LoveMySituation · 02/06/2019 13:24

Red it was a tribute to the player who died on Saturday, Jose Antonio Reyes. They played together at Sevilla

LoveMySituation · 02/06/2019 13:28

I mean the one who showed it to the camera, Alberto Moreno, played at Sevilla with him. He was in tears at the minutes silence

RedForShort · 02/06/2019 13:31

Ah, thanks LoveMySituation. I should have figured that, I have no awareness of football or footballers but I had heard about a player having died young in the news.

The other top I saw was a cross = heart. Which I presumed was religious.

myrtleWilson · 02/06/2019 13:33

The cross & heart one is Alisson - he frequently refers to his faith in social media posts.

HiHoToffee · 02/06/2019 14:05

I agree with Poptart, I want my team to win every match even if it means the other side goes top of the table. Call me a bitter blue Grin

The game last night was dull, both teams were pretty bad. Liverpool was just that little bit more clinical, sigh..

AntennaReborn · 02/06/2019 14:21

Liverpool got lucky, but that's just how football is sometimes.

Onwards and upwards, we'll get it next year!
