Quick help - do I need to bother the doctor?

Ok so the day before yesterday I woke up in the middle of the night with the worst period I have ever seen. I was loosing massive clots etc . Called out of hours doctors and got sent to a and e. They were FAB gave me a drip of fluids and transexamic acid. Bleeding almost stopped! They did a huge tonne of blood tests and even ctg etc. All was fine so they sent me home with transexamic tablets. The last few hours I have developed a slight temperature (38.2) and I’m just starting to feel achey and fluey.

I am not bleeding much at all but I don’t know if the temperature is maybe to be expected - unrelated or an issue?

What would you do?

I'd say back to see someone medical.
It could be your body was trying to expel something, and the tranexamic acid is preventing this happen, hence the temperature.

Get in touch with your GP as soon as possible - as in you need to be seen today. Achy, shivery, fluey, etc all indicate an infection and it's better to get on top of it now with a short course of antibiotics at home than let it take hold and end up on several days worth of IV antibiotics in hospital.

Ok I’ve left a message with my gp asking for a call back . They did do a pretty through look in there - and couldn’t see anything wrong and yesterday there were no signs of infection in my blood test. Oh and I am 100% not pregnant Grin.

I have to say I felt really stupid turning up at a and e for a heavy period but I’m really glad I did!

See someone about this OP, you aren't bothering anyone - emergency appointments are for things that can't wait and while I hope nothing is wrong, you need to be looked at again just in case.

Hope it's nothing and you feel better soon Thanks

Sorry cross posted!

6timesthemess · 31/05/2019 14:45

Well my gp just told me it’s probably a virus and take paracetamol !

OP posts:

Possibly a virus but wildly coincidental.

I’d have a very low threshold for going back to the doctor for this.

LoafofSellotape · 31/05/2019 14:48

If you feel very much worse then I'd seek help again for sure.

DoomOnTheBroom · 31/05/2019 14:48

Without examining you? Personally I'd be wary of accepting that and would either push for an appointment or go to the walk-in.

6timesthemess · 31/05/2019 14:49

She said it was just a heavy period and this is just a virus . If I feel worse call 111. So I have taken more paracetamol and see how I feel I guess!

Yes I spoke to her on the phone but she had the hospital report there

Do your symptoms feel fluey? Have you been using tampons?
Watch out for toxic shock syndrome.
www.nhs.uk/conditions/toxic-shock-syndrome/
If you start to feel worse or feel sick or your temperature rises, I'd call 111 at the very least or else go to A and E.

beautifulgirls · 31/05/2019 17:27

Please don't ignore this. Toxic shock is very real and rapidly potentially fatal. Whilst this may be nothing of the sort waiting to see what happens is not a good idea if it just happens to be something horrible. Time makes a big difference to the potential chances of survival.
I'm lucky, my daughter is still alive because I acted in time. It would not be wrong to get a medical check done.

6timesthemess · 31/05/2019 17:39

I don’t use tampons at all just pads - I will keep an eye I took paracetamol and that has brought my temp down a bit. I suppose all I can do is that if it does get worse I’ll have to call the out of hours doctors!

Hopefully it won’t. My stomach pains seem to be staying the same rather than getting worse.

I’m wondering whether it’s just a side effect of the medication?

OP posts:
EducatingArti · 31/05/2019 18:23

Tranexamic acid is related to nsaids like ibuprofen so can be a bit hard on the stomach. Do your symptoms match with the side effect list in the leaflet? Shouldn't cause a temperature though I wouldn't have thought!

beautifulgirls · 31/05/2019 22:55

Toxic shock isn’t just tampon related. My daughter was 19 months old....
