Croatia holiday help

Posting here for traffic.

Desperately need a break and am looking at Croatia for the end of June (yes I know it's short notice). It's me and DP and we'll probably go via Airbnb, self-catering.I don't know what areas to look at.

We want to be within a few minutes' stroll of a nice beach (pebbly is fine), a cafe and some kind of food shop/market. Happy to be in either a quiet resort (not a party place), a town or a village, as long as it has the above amenities as we don't want to have to have a car.

Being in or close to a historic and interesting town/village would be a bonus. We've been to Zadar and liked it because we stayed in a quiet residential street, had beaches very close by and could get to the beautiful city of Zadar itself quickly by bus. I'm thinking of Trogir or the surrounding area, but am not sure if there are nice beaches there?

Any help much appreciated!

Island of Korcula!

Can get there by ferry from Dubrovnik or Split. Korcula Town is historic (alleged birthplace of Marco Polo), lots of cafes and restaurants, pebbly beach, with local buses to sandy beaches nearby (Lumbarda). Great place.

Thanks! Korcula Town looks amazing but I wasn't sure how nice the beach(es) might be –are there any quietish ones or are they busy and towny?

Trogir is fine, quite busy but has a nice market and some good places to eat. We stayed slightly outside the town and got a water taxi in which passed a few nice beaches although they didn't seem especially big. I think the islands are better for beaches. You can get a bus easily to Split if you want some culture but I'd try to book tickets at least the day before as the first time we tried to go the bus was already full.

We stayed in Baska Voda on the Makarska Riviera about 10 years ago and loved it.

DP's parents have a house in Peroj, just by Fažana. It's a lovely area (near Pula and also near Rovinj which is absolutely STUNNING). It's on the beach, nice villages, nice coastal path, easy to fly into Pula. Lots of local buses but lots within walking distance too.

Look at Istria. We stayed in both Rovinj and Opatija and liked both.

We have been to Dubrovnik a few times and even got married there. But it was very crowded and busy the last time we were there (2012, so things may have changed).

Wow, thanks everyone! Lots of things to look into.

Was on Korcula in July and don't remember any of the Lumbarda beaches being too busy. There was a beach just out of the town which was lovely. Beach at front , cafe /bar (with shade - don't like too much sun!) behind, and that was it.
We got good at getting the bus. First time, we found ourselves last to board although we had been their first, as the local old ladies don't queue!
