What feel-good film can I watch on Netflix or on Amazon Prime?

Feeling inexplicably low for some reason, probably hormonal. I'm home alone for the evening and want something feel-good to watch on Netflix or Amazon Prime. In the mood for a rom com or similar, but willing to consider other ideas that might lift my mood.

Any recommendations, please? TIA!

Another vote for The Intern... films rarely stick with me but this one really did Grin

Dumplin
Hunt for the Wilderpeople (which some idiot has taken off Netflix)
Crazy stupid love - very understated romcom

Malteserdiet · 30/05/2019 19:19

The Big Sick - hate the name but one of the loveliest and most surprisingly funny films I’ve seen for ages

Jeez, whatever you do, don't watch the notebook- I watch that when I am depressed to make me cry and feel sadder! Third vote for wine country on Netflix- amy poehler is amazing

nc100 · 30/05/2019 19:24

Cruel suggestion of the Notebook there Confused

Don't watch that OP!!

andantecantabile · 30/05/2019 19:26

Definitely Hunt for the Wilderpeople
Dumpling is good too.
Watched Wine Country last night, it wasn't bad. I loved "Bring me my finest moomoo!"

SisterMaryLoquacious · 30/05/2019 19:28

Isn’t it Romantic
Some Like It Hot (one of the only real classics on Netflix)

squashyhat · 30/05/2019 19:34

.

Sing Street

A coming of age comedy/romance about a bunch of teenage boys who form a band.

BloddersMum · 30/05/2019 19:44

I second Chandyler! Sat down pretty non plused to watch Eddie the eagle with dh on weds eve and absolutely loved it (even with really bad pmt!).
It has everything; plucky brit who never gives up, humour and of course Hugh Jackman.
It's the only winter games I ever remember from the eighties and that is because of Eddie, I always knew the story but seeing his determination made my heart soar!

BloddersMum · 30/05/2019 19:46

Sorry, chandylier even! And I still don't know how to make that bold...

@BloddersMum - to make something bold, put an asterisk before and after the word/sentence - so bold - but with no spaces. _ before and after underlines, and ^ before and after puts it in italic.

You can do whole sentences or paragraphs by putting the asterisk just at the beginning and end, but separate paragraphs will need putting into bold separately.

Hope this helps.

FairfaxAikman · 30/05/2019 20:11

Second Dumplin'and is t it romantic.

Also Wonder

BloddersMum · 30/05/2019 20:14

Thank you @SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius I have even taken a screenshot of your instructions now! A member since 2012 but don't comment much and tech skils of a sloth Blush

ohhelpohnoitsa · 30/05/2019 20:16

Not a film but 'Love Nina' is a lovely, funny series to binge watch.

Eistigi · 30/05/2019 20:24

I was about to say Dumplin' on Netflix, but I see lots of others have already.

TaxiPlease · 30/05/2019 20:25

Agree with Malteserdiet, The Big Sick is lovely and very, very funny!

Other ideas:

Kedi - heart-warming, beautifully shot and just so lovely (free youtube premium trial)
20th Century Women - fantastic uplifting soundtrack, great cast
The End Of The Fucking World - intelligent and incredibly funny

WatchingTheWheels85 · 30/05/2019 20:26

Netflix- Dumplin
Prime- Safety not guaranteed

HiItsClemFandango · 30/05/2019 20:39

Netflix - Wine Country

MummytoCSJH · 30/05/2019 20:43

Any of these films which aren't inherently about love? Trying to distract myself from a break up and finding all movies I want to watch seem to be about love, all music (sad or happy) about love, most tv I enjoy I've already watched.. I need new things to take my mind away!

TaxiPlease · 30/05/2019 20:53

Mummyto, try Kedi (about lots of gorgeous cats) or The Intern (personally didn't like it that much but many others obviously did and it's not about love).

SisterMaryLoquacious · 30/05/2019 20:55

Tricky MummytoCSJH. There’s a big overlap between “feel good” and rom coms.

But The Good Place on Netflix and Good Omens on Amazon tomorrow are nice and not primarily romantic. Ghosts on iPlayer is also a nice fun sitcom.

Sadik · 30/05/2019 21:34

MummytoCSJH have you seen Etre et Avoir - may sound odd as a recommendation (it's a fly on the wall documentary about a single class French primary school) but it is the most delightful heartwarming film you can imagine, and also often very funny, especially if you have small dc.

Torple · 30/05/2019 21:50

I laughed out loud at Wine Country, watched it on my own in bed at 1am and woke the kids up.
