Where can I donate children’s clothes to so they go to those who could really do with them?

I’m in the North-East, have lots of lovely baby/toddler clothing and I’m wondering how I can get them to those who’d benefit most.

Do social services accept donations? Do food banks? I’m a bit clueless. I just don’t want to sell them online cheaply for someone shrewd to buy and resell at a mark up.

Advice or ideas appreciated.

Women’s refuge?

IAmcuriousyellow · 30/05/2019 09:11

Salvation Army are very hands on, and operate right at the front line, I’ve given them furniture and clothing before

Just came on to say exactly the same thing; search for your nearest women's refuge. Our nearest one is a few miles away and I've always taken the DC's clothing, toys and house stuff there for the DC living there. You wouldn't believe how little some of the residents arrive with.

I know we have a 'baby bank' near us - maybe have a google/Facebook search for one local to you :)

I give the DC clothes to a women's refuge locally.

I give all of mine to women’s aid.

Salvation Army are wonderful. Give it to them.

NoBaggyPants · 30/05/2019 09:30

Our food bank takes them.

I've gone off taking them to the charity shop as (at the one in my town) the best stuff gets taken out and sent to better areas. Hmm

It's funny because I donate a fuck load of baby stuff - decent stuff as well - to our local charity shop, yet they hardly ever have any baby clothes out on the rack.

I've donated about 5 bin bags.

DrCoconut · 30/05/2019 13:43

Our local children's centre takes clothes donations.

Leeds2 · 30/05/2019 15:08

Home-Start might take them. The one where I volunteer does.

MattMagnolia · 30/05/2019 20:19

Not charity shops. I’ve worked in several and because few children’s items are bought, almost all donated children’s clothes is thrown out. Bags full of hand knitted unworn baby things, a silk christening gown, expensive brands, new items with tags, outgrown school uniforms, all bagged up as “Rags”
I left my last job because 75% of donations never reached the shop floor.

Hi OP I'm north east and just realised recently there was a baby bank operating near me so worth a look.

Thanks everyone, really helpful.
