We are flying to Spain on Saturday, coming back the following Saturday. The passport expires a week after that. It’s my daughter’s, she’s 6.

I’m shitting myself. Help!

Your fine as we’ve not crashed out of the EU on no deal so as long as it’s in date she can fly.
If we crash out then you’d need six months

Likethebattle · 29/05/2019 21:54

It’s fine you only need it to be valid for the duration of your stay. That may change after Brexit.

ThomasRichard · 29/05/2019 21:55

You should be fine according to the giver website: www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/spain/entry-requirements. Scroll past the Brexit stuff.

Are you guys sure? Thanks V much.

As long as it is valid on the day of your return it will be fine.

FastandLoose · 29/05/2019 21:55

I’d suggest you see if you can make an appointment at one of the passport offices to get a new one tomorrow or Friday. Can book online.

www.passport.service.gov.uk/check-a-passport

Use this to double check

FastandLoose · 29/05/2019 21:56

Or not! Presumably I’m wrong. Thought you needed at least three months!

WellLetsSayHesSquare · 29/05/2019 22:13

You will be fine if you travel when expected however bear in mind that if something causes you a delayed return (chicken pox for e.g.) it will be ten times harder to get a new passport in Spain.

In theory you don't need a ppt to travel in the EU - free movement of people and all that. You can drive in and out of countries on the main land willy nilly, and ppts aren't checked when entering France via a ferry crossing.

They are used as ID however by airlines. EI citizens who have them can travel with ID cards within EU. U.K. citizens don't have ID cards however.

U.K. does require ppts to be shown on re-entry. No other country I've visited (lots) does though.

I have flown into a country with a passport expiring days later and no return booked and no one batted an eyelid.
