Just that really, saw my gp a week ago and received this letter this morning with details of my appointment next week.
I'm now petrified Sad

Please help, is this standard wording for a breast screening referral? So worried

Sounds like standard wording tome, if I remember correctly. I've had two of these and both were not cancer and not specifically worrying to begin with but the letters did stress the importance of going.

Dontbeadickkkkk · 29/05/2019 10:47

Standard letter for a two week referral. The vast majority of which aren’t breast cancer, the VAST majority

ffs74 · 29/05/2019 10:49

I didn't expect to read the words 'you have symptoms that could indicate cancer' I'm struggling as dh is working away at the moment and I have a teenage dd who is in the midst of a level study/stress. So nobody to talk to at home at all Sad

Thank you so much. So the wording and 2 week referral is standard? I'm petrified but if it's a general letter then I feel a teeny bit better.

Definitely a standard letter, I've seen the exact wording on a friend's, also in Leicester. She attended and got the all clear within the morning.

Best of luck, and good luck to your daughter too.

Standard 2 week turnaround time from gp referral to being seen. It's just strongly worded to make sure you don't miss your appointment. Easy to say but try not to worry. You'll have a scan and a mammogram and get the results there and then. Mammogram uncomfortable but didn't hurt.

Thank you so much, I feel so much better. It certainly is strong worded!!

Yes standard.

Pointless me saying don't worry because everyone does to an extent but the letter doesn't indicate anything other than the usual 2 weeks target they have.

ForTheLoveOfDoughnuts · 29/05/2019 11:26

Very standard. Key part is gp or dentist, so covers a wide range of scenarios

Punxsutawney · 29/05/2019 12:44

I received a phonecall from the breast clinic to make an appointment a few hours after I had seen the gp. I remember it was the August Bank Holiday weekend and it was the Thursday before. They offered me an appointment for the Tues after Bank Holiday. I was impressed at how quickly I got an appointment, I don't think there was actually time for a letter. Don't worry op, seems standard. My appointment was also at a one stop clinic in a large new unit. You are bound to feel anxious but try not to worry. I found a lump the night before Ds's gcse results, not sure what was worrying me most the lump or his exam results!

viques · 29/05/2019 13:37

Good luck OP! I'm sure everything will be fine, of course it's scary because we all jump to the worst possible scenario in our heads, but as others have said the vast majority of lumps turn out to be nothing to worry about. Not that it stops us worrying, so take care of yourself, make sure you go to the appointment and come back to tell us what happened.

[Mine was a cyst, the first doctor I saw at the one stop clinic rotation needle aspirated it there and then, which caused not a little confusion for the other doctors I saw further on in the rotation.......]

ffs74 · 29/05/2019 14:32

Thanks again all!
It's not a lump, just tender and 'different' It's also very painful when I move my arm, turn over in bed etc I'd be lying if I said I wasn't petrified! Sad

You can pay for a private mammogram without referral if you don't want to wait two weeks.

eurochick · 29/05/2019 14:45

Absolutely standard but impossible not to worry.
