Help! We travelled to Alicante on Sunday with our 2DDs (10 &5) within hours of getting off the plane I noticed my 5 yr old had 2 spots on her neck. By the time we transferred to apartment she had more and when she woke the next morning it was clear she had chickenpox! It is now Wednesday morning (so day 3) and she has had a disturbed night with the constant itching. We have kept her in the apartment and not taken her anywhere near people. I am just concerned about flying home. We are due to fly home on Saturday which will be day 6. She seems well enough in herself and has had not sickness or fever with them, just really bad itchy spots. Who do I contact first? Internet showing lots of mixed responses and after a night of no sleep I’m not really thinking straight. Thanks

have they started to scab over?
if so maybe they will all have by sat
I think you need to see a dr and get an opinion and if need be a letter

Yes, you will need a doctors note. I am not sure she will be fit to fly by Saturday though, it takes longer to fully scab. Thank goodness for travel insurance though!

Phone your insurance company
Is it a package holiday? Is there a rep you can contact?

The order I would do is....
Insurance
Doctor
Insurance with doc response
Hotel with doctors response
Airline
Car parking
Cattery/ kennels etc

Hope little one feels better soon.

My daughter came out with chicken pox whilst we were on a 2 week holiday in lanzarote. Thankfully was 2 weeks so she got over it before we flew home but I will say between the sun and sea I think it cleared them up quicker. We just took her to a quiet beach to play away from people. told the hotel she was poorly and they let us take food to our room. We didn't let her in the pool at all st the hotel though just in case. By the end of week 2 she was completely spot free. Fingers crossed she recovers quite quick. Recommend getting her out in the sun and maybe the sea if you can find anywhere away from people x

No, it’s a friends apartment but we have to be out by Saturday as it’s being rented out next week!

This happened to me with my DD. Check out your airlines policy. Most, if not all, Will not allow you to fly for 7 days after the last spot has scabbed and require a fit to fly note from a doctor. I did find one airline (Thomas cook I think but might be wrong) that want it to be 7 days from the last spot coming out, but still require a fit to fly note. It's silly really cos if they are scabbed over then they are no longer contagious and could return to school or nursery. But airlines are much more stringent. Have you got insurance? We didn't but were staying with family and additional flights home were £30 so wasn't an issue. Having to stay on sounds fun but I just wanted to go home. Hope you get sorted.
