Watching the Channel 5 programme. Horrendous. But it seems to be all about solving the murders not why Ian committed the murder.
Isn’t this the wrong angle? It’s not a game.

It’s pretty nearly always men that kill and yet no programme seems to address this. A few women kill but it seems to be their own children rather than strangers.

I mean why did Ian kill them? What was his family like. This is more important so we can prevent this in future.

I think ultimately it's because as far as I know, they're not sure why he killed them. There's a lot of speculation but no real facts.

dayswithaY · 28/05/2019 23:51

We have never known the facts behind this crime as he has always refused to talk about it, which is torture for the victims' families.

I knew of him when he lived in Barton, he worked under my mates dad. Was always known as 'womanbeater' behind his back for his behaviour with maxine carr and was an oddball. Committed several rapes in the town and burgalies but got away with it and managed to get a school caretakes job regardless (FFS).

Graphista · 29/05/2019 00:25

I was hoping the thread meant he'd died!

I think given his history and why men usually kill girls and women it's pretty obvious why!

But I appreciate that for the families that's not something they want discussed in any detail.

I think what's MOST important to discuss is WHY the faults found with certain police officers, vetting procedures etc haven't been more widely publicised or better addressed.

Patroclus · 29/05/2019 00:25

And from what I gather, the reason he killed them was jealousy and some underlying sexual urges im sure. Maxine Carr was going away to her parents or something for a bit, he got angry and accused her of cheating, then saw the two girls who Maxine was a teaching assistant for and took it out on them.

Crunched · 29/05/2019 00:33

The programme mentioned Carr attended a party whilst visiting her parents, and he felt resentful at being home alone.

The thing is you can’t apply logic and reasonable thought to something so horrendous. Someone like Huntley doesn’t think in the way we do so yes it was likely something as “simple” as he was pissed off that day. Unfathomable to most of us but I’ve worked with prisoners and sadly many victims are just in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Icandothisallday · 29/05/2019 07:42

Theres tons of programmes that talk about why murderers committed their crimes. Male and female.

Personally I think it gives them air time and the spotlight.

If this programme was about how crimes are solved, it makes sense that's what it focused on.

Icandothisallday · 29/05/2019 07:43

Oh and also these programmes usually come to the conclusion that these men, often, have a deep seated hatred for women.

Deathraystare · 29/05/2019 07:47

A lot of these programmes tell you nothing new. I watched one last night about a serial killer. I may have missed a bit but it did not mention if he had been caught, finally or not. Ditto, the Jill Dando case did not have anything more to say on the case, much. Just a waste of a programme.

magicBrenda · 29/05/2019 07:57

There have been multiple programs on Ian Huntley - or Nicola as he likes to be called as he is transitioning in to a trans woman now.

This show was just another program with a different aim.

He killed those girls because he is an evil predator and this evil predator is attempting to get access in to women’s jails.

He seeks out places and situations where he can abuse females.

Sometimes there is no reason for this other than being horrifically flawed and dangerous.

GeriAtric · 29/05/2019 08:20

I found it quite interesting in terms of the police investigation and how the evidence mounted up against him. I didn't know, for example, that turning off a phone sent a signal to the closest receiver. Aside from the obvious trauma due to the nature of the case, it must be very satisfying (apologies if that's the wrong word in the circumstances) working on a case like that and seeing evidence mount up, piece by piece, knowing that you've got the man who did it.

Bedsidedrawer · 29/05/2019 09:35

Something wrong wired in their brain then environmental factors not compensating for that e.g love and care
They just don't think like us. There is a complete lack of empathy for a start.
