Cadbury’s World - any tips?

I’m heading to Cadbury’s World tomorrow with the DC. I’ve not been since 1998 so no doubt it’s really changed. Does anyone have any useful tips to get the most out of our visit? Thanks!

Go somewhere else.

We went in nov 17 and it was awful. My dd hated it it was boring.

If you go i really hope you have a good experience but it wasn't for us

If you haven't aĺready booked and paid, go somewhere else. I went in March this year and each one of our group was very disappointed. It's nothing like it used to be.

The 4d experience was enjoyable, so make sure you give that a go .

It was definitely better in the office
90s. Since then they've got rid of the production area completely, although the last time we went (circa Oct 17) they were about to put something else in where part of it used to be.

When we went they had the original bit with the historical walk through and the bit where you watch the video. Then you do a lot of walking with not much to see (where production has gone) before you get to another area where they are staff "making" chocolate. It's more melting and handing out. There's a photo opportunity somewhere in there too. I'm sure there must be more than that but I can't recall. They also still hand out chocolate at the beginning.

It's not as good as it used to be. We still had a good day out overall though BUT that's largely because we took a picnic and went and enjoyed the play area afterwards. There's also the 4D experience which my eldest loved but the queue was long and imo not worth the wait, as I said she enjoyed it though.

Tips - don't buy their food (rip off prices and didn't look great), take your time to read the facts in the walk through and eat as much chocolate as you can without being sick. The gift shop at the end isn't as good as it used to be either but some of the chocolate does work out a little more cost effective than it used to be.

We went a year ago and it was so boring. Really disappointed

I took a school trip a few years ago and it’s dreadful. I couldn’t believe the price for normal members of the public and it’s completely not worth it. You will be done in an hour.

The 4D Chocolate Adventure was unanimously our favourite part of the day. The queue to enter the cinema moved very quickly, quicker than the waiting time signs stated. We had to access the adventure by being taken down (or maybe up?!) in the shaky lift! The kids were all so excited by this point and I have to say that the staff were fab and all added to the experience. We had yet to be in a 4D cinema, so the experience was completely new to us. It was amazing. We met lots of the famous Cadbury’s characters and the flying mini eggs practically landed in our laps!
We also enjoyed the outdoor play area and they could have stayed there for the rest of the day if the rain hadn’t decided to make an unwanted appearance.

Don’t go
,and the chocolate is awful now too

Go somewhere else. Cadbury chocolate is awful now.

We went when DD was 6. Had passed the signs en route to a week self-catering in the Cotswolds & she really wanted to go. It was beginning of our school holidays (Scotland) so it was us and about 20 over excited school trips. Thought we'd lost her at one point and found her trying to explain to an exasperated TA/parent helper (I like to think the teacher would recognise her pupils) why she wasn't lining up with the rest of the class to go back to the bus. I don't remember much about it other than it was a bit tired looking and we got free chocolate buttons. It was over 10 years ago though.

Don’t go

DizzySue · 29/05/2019 09:24

I wouldn't go back.

The factory wasn't even operational the day we went, it was a cleaning day. It was boring and run down.

BalloonSlayer · 29/05/2019 09:26

I went recently as I had some (a LOT) of time to kill. I had last been about 20 years previously and enjoyed it as it was a working factory then I think. Well it is nothing like as good now, although the 4D thing was fab.

I resented being lectured about saving the rainforest . . . look mate it's not ME cutting down the rainforest to produce chocolate, it's YOU, if you don't like what's happening, run your business a different way, WTF do you think I am going to be able to do about it?! Hmm

The thing I LOVED though was the Bournville Carillon just over the road. Basically a massive bell tower with loads of bells that one individual can play. It was going like mad when I was there and sounded amazing but by the time I had thought "What is that?" and gone to investigate the guy had gone home for the day. Looking at the website just now there are recitals on a Saturday and that must have been what I heard.

In a nutshell I would say that CW is a great place to stop if you are on your way somewhere, or for a day out if you are travelling for less than an hour (My DCs would have enjoyed it when small but one has a milk allergy so it was always a no no). However if you have to drive 3 hours there and back you may find it disappointing.

whyohwhy25 · 29/05/2019 14:01

Thanks everyone. We’re here, we’ve driven 3 hours, having a picnic under the covered tent bit in the rain. It’s rammed. Regretting my decision but the kids and DM who’s idea it was seem happy enough.
4D cinema is first on the agenda I think...

I really enjoy it there! I hope you have a great time xx

whyohwhy25 · 29/05/2019 19:58

I had a great time in the end! The 4D cinema was brilliant. And, compared to Dickins World I went to a couple of years ago, Cadbury World was actually really good. Might have helped I had low expectations Grin
