Antique glass - any collectors?

I'm aware this is very niche, however I wondered if any mumsnetters are collectors of antique glass?

It's an area that intrigues me (love history, worked in auction houses for a good while) and I'm thinking of investing- not lots of money though! Maybe starting off for my birthday with a Georgian wine glass...?

So, is it just me?!

Yes, just me then- oh well!

No, but I knew someone who collected Victorian disaster glass from the north east and that was (genuinely) fascinating.

Ah pigeon! Thanks for your reply. I'm considering purchasing 'Antique Glass Collector' magazine to investigate further.

I think my 23 year old self would chuckle at that!

It does seem fascinating, and I think the NorthEast was a hub of glass production. Still investigating my possible purchase.

Any other collectors of antiques out there, whatever they may be?

I have a Victorian cruet set and some cut glass vinegar bottles. I also have some small Victorian bottles.

Chelmsford Museum has a lovely Glass room if you’re ever down that way.

As a child I was fascinated at how intricate and beautiful some of them were for something so old.

Go to the glass museum near Kingswinford in Staffs. It is amazing and has a good bookshop too. You'll learn a lot.

I’m more of a ceramics person but I do have a soft spot for 70s Nordic glass. Love a bit of iitala (although my budget stretches as far as two small candle holders 😆).

Just seen these replies- thanks for the museum recommendations, I live a good museum, and will try to find a way to visit.

I love Victorian poison bottles! I've got a couple but I collect antique ceramic jelly moulds. Just found one with a lion picture which is beautiful.
