Do you enjoy explaining things to curious children?

I know it can sometimes be a drag if children are very inquisitive, or indeed having to explain things out of necessity, but is there anything you enjoy explaining to them (your own DCs, or someone else's)?

I like telling my inquisitive nieces (aged 4 and 6) about netball, although they're too little to play it yet; teaching them to play simple tunes on the piano; and I love telling them about old technology, such as records and video cassettes.

I have an extremely inquisitive 5yo boy and though I do enjoy explaining things to him, it is often draining and exhausting as every question leads to another, and if he doesn't quite understand the logic of the answer, he will keep asking the same question over and over. And he asks some really awkward ones too. We're considering buying him an Alexa to help 🙈

I really enjoying chatting with my niece and nephew. They’re both so interested in things, and I find it fascinating watching them learn

Having a smartphone handy can save a lot of time when explaining - a picture or video paints a thousand words! I remember as a child asking my grandad (who loved explaining anything) how he knew so much; he pointed to the Encyclopaedia Britannica.

I could have done without finding out exactly which monkeys and apes had opposable thumbs at 6.45am this morning. And then having it pointed out that pandas must also have opposable thumbs due to the way they were eating bamboo at the zoo (they dont, but they do gave an extra bone which helps them graps)....

I gave some very surreal conversations with my kids......

Yes. Love it.

No. It is knackering. My ds is absolutely dogged in pursuit of truth. My dd just uses each question as a jumping off point for creativity and nonsense and it is like living in an asylum.

Plus they are 12&14 and I'm a bit over it now.

DS2 like to ask lots of awkward questions like “why is the sky?” So I say “what do you mean? Why is the sky blue? Or why is the sky up there?” “No mummy!! Why is the sky?!?” “Erm...” No idea what that was all about. He stomped off in a rage because I didn’t have a clue wtf he was on about!

My favourite was always "Why does wind wind"

Both times pronounces like wind that blows, not roads that wind. Not sure I ever worked out the answer.
