Been using 1 knife as multi purpose in the kitchen always - do I need a set?

See pic attached. That’s the only knife I own, blade portion is about the same height as my palm width for perspective.

Does anyone know what purposes this knife is good for and recommend a good cheap general all purpose knife set?

I use this one for chopping onions, meat, garlic, vegetables etc but now feel I might be making my task harder potenrially using the same knife type for everything?

So long as it is sharp you're fine.

The best knives I've had recently have been cheapy sets from Ikea. I did buy a stupidly expensive knife from a naice cookshop, but to be honest, it is shit and was £50 down the drain, it constantly needs sharpening, you aren't supposed to put it in the dishwasher and to be honest I have no energy for a high maintenance knife.

The first set I got from Ikea was something stupid like £2 in the sale but they were pretty good knives that lasted at least five years, yes one did break, but they were always sharp despite almost daily use and dishwashering.

The current set I have is also probably at least five years old, is absolutely fine except the tip broke off the smallest one because I would have been using it to lever a lid off something, but they're still sharp and I'll be going back there if they need replacing.

I'd just pick whichever set of these you like best:

I only use two knives. One like the one in your picture and a bread knife. Everything else seems unnecessary.

I like to have more than one so I don't need to wash up between cutting chicken and salad for example.

Do you have a separate bread knife?

I'd recommend getting a Sabatier or a Sontoku, they're v useful multi use chefs knives
