UTI since Friday, best remedies?

Awoke on Friday to go to a funeral and realised I've got a UTI. Couldn't do anything about it due to being away at funeral. Typical this happens on a Bank Holiday weekend.

Feeling tired, heavy in the pelvic area, have a bit of pain when having a wee but nothing worse than that. Wee is cloudy but not horribly smelly.

So far been drinking lots of water, cranberry juice and peppermint tea. Won't be able to get to a GP until Tuesday at the earliest.

Anything else I can do to try and get rid of it without getting ABs.

I think you can use bicarbonate of soda in water to help. If you google it you’ll find remedies.

Likethebattle · 26/05/2019 18:35

Also your pharmacist can help, in Scotland women up to 65 are told to go to pharmacist before gp if they have a UTI. There was a poster on the local surgery.

MazDazzle · 26/05/2019 18:37

I’ve went directly to the pharmacist before and been given antibiotics for a UTI.

Half a teaspoon of bicarbonate in a pint of water every hour will help.

You can get antibiotics for uti at Superdrug. Look on their website. You can get them for now. Or get some for later to save

soupmaker · 26/05/2019 19:08

Thank you.

Am in Scotland so I'll get to a pharmacy tomorrow, do you need to take a sample?

Will try bicarbonate of soda in water. Sounds gross, but anything to help try and get rid.

Lemon juice in water (hot or cold) works well and is nicer. It turns alkaline in your body.
Be careful not to drink too much bicarb as it can be dangerous. I'd stick with the lemon juice, cranberry and lots of water.

OMG! Are you kidding? My poor DD just waited 5 hours at her local walk in clinic to get a prescription for a UTI! In the past I’ve paid £60 to see a private doctor to get a prescription. Genuinely had no idea you could anti biotics without seeing a doctor!

Nat6999 · 26/05/2019 19:45

D-mannose, I get mine in capsules, it stops bacteria breeding in the bladder wall & can stop a uti before it gets bad enough to need antibiotics & also protect against future infections.

Lloyds pharmacy online too. Just pay online and collect

Kittykat93 · 26/05/2019 19:51

Don't bother with cranberry. You need antibiotics or the cystitis sachets from the chemist might help.

Drink lots of water. Avoid all fruit juices, tea, coffee and alcohol.

Likethebattle · 26/05/2019 20:38

Oh god avoid any alcohol, I had cystitis at 19 and thought ‘a few won’t hurt.’ Yes they bloody did, I went from burning when peeing to my whole urethra feeling like it had been set alight. I was very ill.

MazDazzle · 26/05/2019 20:43

In Scotland a pharmacy prescription is free and usually no sample is needed. A description of your symptoms will be enough. If those antibiotics don’t work, then a sample might be needed. Then they send it to a lab to determine which antibiotics will def. work.

soupmaker · 26/05/2019 22:05

Thanks all.

I've body swerved the bicarbonate of soda in water and am on hot water and lemon.

Managed to get to local pharmacy before it closed at 9. Got seen by pharmacist, answered a few questions, didn't need to take sample and been given 3 days of ABs. Fingers crossed they zap it.

Keep an eye on it and go to go if you think there is even a chance it hasn't gone. D-mannose (you can get it on amazon) is amazing for relieving symptoms but will not cure the problem.
