How can I avoid horribly aching feet at work?

I work a job that requires standing in one place for long periods of time. Recently my feet have been in absolute agony after just a couple of hours. Is there anything I can do to avoid this?!

Take time out to visit a chiropodist.

Take advice.

What kind of pain?

Forefoot (toes, balls of feet) hindfoot (arch, heel) or back of heel/ankle.

There are specific causes for each type of pain and remedies have to be tailored to you.

What shoes are you wearing?

mabelmylove · 26/05/2019 17:07

@Gingernaut All through the bottom of my foot! I’m nervous about visiting a chiropodist because I’m sure the pain is just because I’m quite overweight rather than there being something wrong with my feet

@FaithInfinity Steel toed work boots

Flat feet? May require an insole or specially made orthotic (lumpy insole).

Dd gets this, nothing specific her feet just hurt from standing, try the super squishy insoles you can buy in big supermarkets. Can't remember the brand but they cost £10-£15.

Dd loves them.

Change your shoes each time you have a break. Moisturise feet at lunch time. Sit down for breaks and lunch.

Re insoles - try home bargains. They have gel and memory foam. I have had a foot problem recently and the best ones I've found for my purposes have been from there

What sort of support do your steel-toed work boots have inside? I'm guessing they don't have any arch support?

As others have said, orthotics and or insoles will help.

Another insoles recommendation. I buy sports ones from amazon, they make such a difference.
