Where do you go on holiday as a family of five?

Can anyone recommend some good holidays that would suit a family of 5? Hotels that cater for 5 sharing? Anywhere, any country, any type of holiday as long as you felt it worked well for two adults and three kids (children are 6,4 and 2)

Thanks Smile

We are a family of five on a limited budget. We have found youth hostels work well for us - you can often get family rooms with their own bathroom. We have also gone to campsites with mobile homes or ready-erected tents.

We have been to Antalya quite a few times as they tend to have family rooms and the kids love the hotel waterslides and funfairs.

Also been to Cyprus, Egypt and Dubai.

We always go to Turkey they always have rooms big enough to fit us all in and it's not as expensive as Spain for example. We're going back to the place we went last year as we know it caters well for us. Big enough rooms etc.

Turkey works well for us.

French camp sites. Anywhere with apartments rather than hotel rooms.

FanSpamTastic · 26/05/2019 17:34

We have 3 - we have done

  • youth hostels - a family room - 6 bunks
  • Eurocamp - 3 bed mobile home
  • Euro Disney - 2 bed lodge on Davy Crockett ranch
  • cottages in wales/ Devon/ Cornwall
  • villa in Greece
  • apartments in France

We have found cottages/ apartments easier than hotels so that kids can be in a separate bed room and we all get some sleep. Also I find it easier to self cater than be in hotels.

Turkey specialises in this kind of holiday - everything included in the price, all the food you can eat, entertainment, multiple swimming pools with great slides, nice sandy beaches. Along the coast to the east of Antalya, towns like Belek. Many not full of Brits, but Russians, Azerbaijanis and many others.

Thanks for the replies, some great suggestions to look into here.

Can anyone recommend any specific accommodation they enjoyed?

We have stayed in villas(Spain) as part of a larger family group. 2 bedroom apartments in Ibiza and we've been to Duinrell a few times. We've 3 kids.

wildhairdontcare · 27/05/2019 17:43

Disneyland Paris - Davey Crockett ranch.
Mistis blue dimes resort in Kos - just back at Easter and it was amazing!

ShesABelter · 27/05/2019 17:46

We stayed in Marjal Costa Blanca last year with Europarc. We stayed in occidental la mar in costa regular the year before that and enjoyed it. We are going to caretta beach in kalamaki this year which I would likely not of chosen but need to go for a wedding. Also stayed in club mac but it only accomdates five if one is in a cot/travel cot and although the pools are brilliant. The food and other clientele weren't the best so don't think I'd recommend there. We also go self catering abroad lots of places do 5 as do air b and bs.

Eurocamp ready-pitched tents or mobile homes in France. Spent the best holidays of my teens in those. French campsites are awesome, so much to do at the good ones. Amazing memories.

LooksBetterWithAFilter · 27/05/2019 22:11

Eurocamp with tents or mobile homes are great. Ours are older now the two biggest are teens youngest is 8 and they still all enjoy that type of holiday. Good clubs, always pick one with a pool. The dc have all enjoyed Italy and children were always welcomed wherever we went in Italy as well.

confusedofengland · 27/05/2019 22:19

Eurocamp in France

Villa in Portugal

Camping in this country (own caravan/tent)

Disneyland Paris

We have also found that pubs in this country often have family rooms which sleep 5 or more.

Last year we stayed here:
www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Hotel_Review-g297968-d1214315-Reviews-Club_Hotel_Turan_Prince_World-Side_Manavgat_Turkish_Mediterranean_Coast.html

We had a duplex villa poolside which had beds for 5 but with sofa beds we squeezed 7 people in. Can't recall what it cost, but anyway we flew from Azerbaijan, not UK.

Blobby10 · 28/05/2019 08:33

We had a folding camper and went to UK campsites as a family of 5 (with 2 dogs!) lots of chilly, damp holidays but the kids got lots of fresh air and say they loved them. We did loads of walking.

However the two holidays they remember most fondly were those where we did Eurocamp in France. First time we stayed near Ile de Re (spelt wrong!) in a tent near a beach. Site had a pool so we just stayed there or on the beach most days didn't use the car for two weeks except for one day when we felt we ought to see something of France other than the beach!. Went on the ferry too so made the travelling last a couple of days as part of the trip. Second time went to just north of Bordeaux - best holiday ever - we hired bikes to go everywhere as there were loads of cycle lanes and again didn't use the car for two weeks! Broke the travelling at a site in northern France again.

We’re a family of 5 and go to lots of places. We always book flights separately and hire a cottage/villa/apartment.
I find it works better for us as we get up when we want and have breakfast when we want. Yes it’s self catering but the kids love going to the supermarket on the first day in a foreign country and checking things out. We take snacks with us when we’r out For the day and have dinner out.
I also prefer being able to put the kids to bed and just chill out in the living area or garden with dh
We’ve been to some amazing places and had wonderful accommodation on beachfronts and in mountains as well as in cities and some with our own private pool.
