Can anyone advise how shit this will be?
Carphone warehouse refusing to exchange it return 🙄

I know its fine until august but after that the phone can't update and could not be secure? What exactly does that mean?
Should I not use mobile banking or shopping or work payments on it?
Will Google apps work?

Confused and annoyed.
Can anyone shed some light?

I've bought my Huawei outright and got a SIM only contract so I'm planning to hang on to the phone for years. I'm not worried

Me too.

App updates will still be available for the time being.
Nothing has actually happened yet with regards to Huawei google updates, they are still all available.
Should this change, you will no longer be able to receive updates for Google maps or Gmail app (If you use these, it will mean downloading alternative maps/sat nav application). You will be able to continue to use gmail on the standard email app rather than the gmail one. Huawei will be releasing their own security updates, should Google's no longer be available.

I hope i've been able to answer some of these questions and hopefully put your mind at rest a bit. I agree its a crappy situation, i personally think that all retailers, especially where mobile phones are concerned should have at least a 14 day return period. The company i work for does have a cooling off period but i know there are a few that dont. Might be worth doing what someone upthread suggested and claim no signal if you really still are'nt happy with it.

@RibenaMonsoon
Thank you
But you don't think it'll affect security in that if I mobile bank or online shop or use it for work that should be an extra risk?
I'm happy to go the websites to access my emails or use Huawei alternatives I'm mostly worried about security.

@BossyBanana
They know I've contacted multiple times trying to cancel contract.
You think I'll be able to say I want to cancel because there's no signal?

Did you buy it online or in a store?

itsbetterthanabox · 26/05/2019 21:30

@JustSomebodie
In store

It shouldn't be a issue at all security wise. If Google withdraw their security software from Huawei, they will add their own. You also have the option to download a separate app for extra security to keep your mind at rest. Avast or AVG are good and are free to download.
Alternatively you can get extra security through Vodafone anyway. It's called secure net and its £1 a month.
Either options are good but Huawei will be adding their own security software anyway, so you won't need the extra. Just for piece of mind as a bit of added extra security

BossyBanana · 26/05/2019 21:46

I did.

I spent over a week trying to cancel the contract I had, I was going back and forth between CPW and Vodaphone trying to return the phone and cancel it but I was getting nowhere.

The reason I changed my mind was because half a dozen people told me horror stories about how bad CPW.
I tried to tell them I couldn’t afford the contract, I offered to pay a fee to get out of it, but they wouldn’t budge.

I posted on the MSE forum and was told to tell them I had no signal anywhere at home, that I worked from home and that I was unable to send any texts or make or receive calls so the phone was basically unusable.

They tried to argue with me but it was on the T&Cs that I could cancel if I reported that i didn’t have signal within a certain amount of days.
I just fudged the truth a little and said it was the reason I’d been trying to cancel since the start and lied and said I’d mentioned it to several of the people I had spoken to and eventually the agreed and let me cancel.

I hadn’t even unboxed the phone so it was easy to return it for a full refund.

Try using The MSE ‘resolver’ complaints tool

Just say you decided that you'd make the best of it and use it, but...oh no! No signal at home or work so you'll need to return it.

Be strong.

Watching thread with interest, because it's so hard to get concrete information. (I'm getting a new phone next week and I'm wondering whether to risk Huawei. The camera on the P30 Pro is way better than anything else, and perfect for my needs...) It's so difficult to decide.

itsbetterthanabox · 27/05/2019 12:52

@bossybanana
Am I better doing that over customer services or in store?

OP posts:
BossyBanana · 29/05/2019 09:32

I did it in store.

BossyBanana · 29/05/2019 09:32

But I don’t know if it makes a difference which way you do it.
