Does anyone else sigh a lot?

I’ve noticed of late, that I sigh a lot. I’m not upset, but I’ve had a lot of people at work ask me ‘are you ok?’ I’m like, ‘I’m fine, nothing wrong, why?’

Does anyone else do this?

Always. And people comment on it.
I'm always shattered and stressed.

Rockbird · 26/05/2019 11:53

Anxiety and stress would absolutely explain mine. It's totally involuntary. Didn't know I was being a childish martyr. Wa-hey!

Itstheprinciple · 26/05/2019 11:56

Yes, me too. DH always asking if I'm OK. Fir me, it is anxiety. I actually mentioned it to the GP a couple of weeks ago. My head is always busy busy busy so even if I look like I'm sitting quietly, there's a lot going on behind the scenes!

amusedbush · 26/05/2019 12:19

I do it all the time and I don’t even realise until DH asks what I’m sighing at Confused

sheshootssheimplores · 26/05/2019 12:21

My DP does when he is tired. It’s very annoying 😬

Crinkle77 · 26/05/2019 14:28

Yes I too have been told that I sigh a lot but I have no idea I'm doing it.

ChodeofChodeHall · 26/05/2019 14:31

Yes! I have a colleague who comments every time: "big sigh". Yes, thanks, observant colleague, say what you see.

Hecateh · 26/05/2019 14:37

PP have give some reasons but

It can be a sign of anaemia either due to low iron, folate or B12. (maybe other vitamins or minerals)

If you are anaemic you have less availability of oxygen carrying agents in your blood so you sigh in order to get more oxygen around your body.

If you are also tired and get breathless easily it would definitely point to the anaemia cause and worth getting your bloods checked.

I've definitely done it less since getting my levels sorted.

MaryBoBary · 26/05/2019 14:47

I sigh a lot without realising it. Sometimes I think I just need to take a deeper breath and then OH asks what's wrong. I don't even know I've done it.

MaryBoBary · 26/05/2019 14:48

Interesting - I have to have injections for low b12 and have also just been prescribed folic acid tablets as that is low too.

And I have anxiety so could be a combination of all 3?

MT2017 · 26/05/2019 15:19

No, but DH does and it really infuriates me!

^^this!

ExpletiveDelighted · 26/05/2019 17:15

I'm not anaemic, when I give blood my test sample drops like a stone.

ButEmilylovedhim · 26/05/2019 17:25

I caught myself giving a long sigh during an exam last week. Parts of it were pretty impossible though, in my defence. Probably summed up the feeling of the room really Grin

Barkette · 26/05/2019 17:31

I seem to do a huge sigh right before I go to sleep and it drives DH mad. I don't do it on purpose but always feel more ready to sleep after like I've let the tension from my body go! Oh and at work I am constantly sighing at irritating emails that is definitely voluntary!

TSSDNCOP · 26/05/2019 17:32

I was literally mid-sigh as I read your post title. People often comment. I'm a worrier but generally quite an upbeat person.

kaytee87 · 26/05/2019 17:37

I was going to mention anaemia too

BlueCookieMonster · 26/05/2019 17:39

I’m a newly qualified health care professional in my first post. It would explain a lot of the anxiety (subconscious or otherwise).

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 26/05/2019 17:50

I do it when I am concentrating at work because I'm not breathing properly.

lucymegan · 26/05/2019 17:51

Yep all the time. It's a habit.

cantfindname · 26/05/2019 17:55

One of the reasons my exOH is an ex was because of his constant sighing. If he was ignored the first time he would do it again, and again. It was deliberate and extremely annoying. If I asked he would say he was 'stretching his lungs'. Load of tosh, it was another of his constant wind-ups along with clutching his heart and groaning every time he couldn't get his own way or was asked to do something!

Whitefishy · 26/05/2019 18:15

Grin cantfindname that’s hilarious!

AlrightBabby · 26/05/2019 18:23

DH does this, MIL does as well, and my DS1 is third generation sigher!

WeeDangerousSpike · 26/05/2019 18:23

Yes, I sigh loads apparently, I don't know I'm doing it though. I'm very depressed, very stressed, have an anxiety disorder, have chronic illness that includes history of b12 deficiency, and currently bleeding a lot so am probably very anaemic.

But good to know I'm just attention seeking and should just stop it.

Drogosnextwife · 26/05/2019 18:25

Yes I do. DP always says "what's wrong with you, why you sighing?". I don't even notice I've done it most of the time.

ExhaustedGrinch · 26/05/2019 18:28

I do it alot but have recently been prescribed folic acid so could be connected to that (I had no idea it could be linked)! I also suffer with anxiety.
