FFS my toddler has smashed the TV

Exactly the title, 2 and a half year old "D"S has thrown something, it's hit the TV and smashed it whilst I was getting his tea out of the oven.

Bloody hell, it had to happen when it's just me and him instead of him and his dad didn't it.

So, I'm assuming house insurance doesn't cover it, (waiting for DP to check his phone at work to see the news and confirm on the insurance front, can't wait for that Hmm) and we definitely don't have a TV amount of cash spare right now!

Please tell me what house related items your DC's have broken to make me feel slightly better about it.

Are you being sarcastic?

People obviously don't take out house insurance and have an excess so big they can't claim for a TV. But you can make small claims as well as large ones on house insurance. It's designed to be just that.

I foolishly gave my toddler my iPhone during a FaceTime with his dad who was working abroad. He dropped it facedown on the floorboards, and scraped it along like his toy car. Destroyed the screen. I'd only had it 3 weeks.

It may not be worth claiming even if you have accidental damage cover, unless it's a hugely expensive TV. Your excess may mean you pay over half yourself, and your premium will go up for the next few years. Generally I wouldn't consider a home insurance claim for under £1000.

My cat once smashed the TV by trying to walk along the top of it 🤦‍♀️

It's now safely up on the wall to try and minimise risk from the animals and the toddler. She does love throwing things though 🙄

When we were younger my brother played postman pat with the gas fire and posted a whole load of toy plates into it. Next time my mum turned it on, the whole house filled with smoke.

YetAnother our TV cost a lot more than our home insurance premium for a year.

@60second you need to immediately read ‘Alfie gets in first’!

When DC were small, two little boys played with a magnifying glass and the sun and by a chain of very unlikely events caused accidental damage to a church building costing their parents 2 Mio (DM not Euro).
We swiftly extended our insurance to cover accidental damage by children, we never needed it but I slept better.
