children playing outside at night

My daughter has moved into a new house in a close where all the neighbours know each other, and all the children, from about 4 years old play outside from 7 am before school, and until 9.30 at night. My daughter has a 3 year old daughter, and likes to keep to a routine, including a regular bedtime. Each night my granddaughter is being woken up by the noise of the children playing, shouting and screaming, sometimes she's being woken up 4 times a night. My daughter wants to keep relations with her new neighbours civil and friendly, but how does she go about getting the neighbourhood children to be more considerate and keep on friendly terms with the adults, who let their children roam over the estate with minimum supervision? My daughter is very upset by the whole situation and doesn't know what to do, neither do I because I have never been in this situation before. We would both appreciate some thoughts on what she can do.

Unfortunately that is life on an estate.

As a newcomer she risks hostility if she is seen as being ‘snooty’ or ‘telling them off’.

If they are in her garden or right outside she could ask them to be quiet or play elsewhere but given the free rein these children have they are not likely to respond politely or do as she says.

I’m mouth almighty but these types of people who let their children out to run amok are spiteful and vengeful and your daughter needs to tread carefully.

Unfortunately I don't think there is much she can do about the children, but she can do some things in her daughters' room to minimise the noise. Obviously windows closed, but also white noise can help to dampen or lesson the impact of other noises.

Can she put some white noise on in the background to drown out the kids playing?
