The barking dog next door...

I’ve posted about this before, it’s driving me mad.
Dog next door has been barking & howling non stop since 3.30. This happens most Friday nights until the neighbours get home at around 9.30.
When they get home the dog stops & is replaced by kids playing football in their living room (against adjoining wall) or by overly dramatic sex noises (when the kids stay with their dad)
Can I do anything that will get the dog to stop barking?

Have you tried speaking to them?

Gertie75 · 24/05/2019 17:26

Do they know the dog barks when they're out?

We used to have an extremely well behaved and quiet German shepherd and didn't realise she was barking until our neighbours told us, turned out she used to sit on the bed looking out of the window barking at people going past, we then shut the curtains and it solved the problem.

RestingBitchFaced I spoke to the man a few months ago because he kept parking his car half o we my drive ( I couldn’t get in or out) he told me it’s a public road & he would park where he saw fit, he then waved his hand at me and told me to move along ( he is a complete wanker)

Gertie75 the dog barks when they are home, we hear them shouting at it to shut up, it’s non stop when they are out. It’s definitely not barking at people walking past, people don’t really walk down this road

Doesn't sound like he would care if you went to speak to him with that attitude. What about local council for noise complaint?

nancy75 · 24/05/2019 17:37

Does a dog count for noise complaints? I thought it was just things like loud music but I will have a look at the council website. I feel sorry for the poor dog, it’s not very old & obviously doesn’t like being left on it’s own

I really feel for you. We had a similar situation in our previous house. Single guy who was out most of the day and I think the dog was just lonely. The owner did leave the back door open so he could at least run in and out, but then there was the mixture of the barking being loud both through the walls, and out in the garden so you couldn't escape it. He then used to come home which would stop the dog barking temporarily, but then he would quite often go out again until late and the dog would start up again. The barking went on for hours some days. Was especially frustrating in the summer as felt we couldn't leave our back door or windows open as the barking was just too much when the dog was in the garden!! It also put us off using our garden. I remember one summer day when I was working at home, just bursting into tears as it was so hot in the house but had to have all the windows shut as the barking was driving me insane!

We spoke to him a few times, but although he said he would do something it didnt make any difference.

So we took 2 routes. The first was to contact the council. They did take it seriously and the 1st step was to start recording dates and times of the barking and how long it went on for. They also said we should record the barking. They said the next step was for them to review all this and then make a decision as to whether they would take any action. We didnt actually get that far, as we then went for our 2nd route. We knew that the house was rented and we knew which agents rented the house. So we contacted them, and in turn they complained to the owner. We actually kept hounding the agents and the man was given warnings and eventually things did improve slightly-he made sure he popped home during the day at various points to see to the dog. Luckily he actually ended up moving-so dont know if things would have kept improving or not. I have absolutely nothing against dogs, but they need attention and interaction and shouldn't really be left alone all day!

I would recommend trying to speak to him first in case he doesn't realise what the dog is like when he is out. But on the other hand you have said he doesn't seen like a reasonable man.
But if that doesn't work definitely contact the council. And agents/owner if you know he rents.

I really hope you manage to get a resolution to this-it really can affect how u feel in your own house and garden.

A dog absolutely counts for noise complaints and if it's barking like that it's distressed poor thing.
I'd ring the council, and very possibly the rspca if it was me.

Following. My neighbours dog is driving me nuts. It yaps sooo loudly. It also appears to bark for no reason as far as I can tell. Last weekend it was in the garden around 6am yapping and woke us up. Haven't spoken to them yet but I'm going to have to Hmm

Likethebattle · 24/05/2019 20:53

I think the local dog warden would help.

nancy75 · 24/05/2019 22:07

Ive checked the local council & they do co we dog mouse so I’ll give them a call after the weekend. I feel like a real meaner but they really are making our lives a misery, Dd was at a club tonight so I went to my mums rather than sit in listening to the dog barking.
