You know the ones, they crop up every couple of weeks and yet I for one STILL feel compelled to take part. EVERY TIME. Here’s my personal top ten.

  1. The CF friend/neighbour - usually something childcare related or, even better, about giving someone a lift. Brilliant every time.
  1. Live parking row. With diagrams and, preferably, pictures - must be updated every ten minutes to avoid getting your audience too cross.
  1. Weddings and hen parties - doesn’t really matter what the issue is, I just want to know about them.
  1. How often do you change your bed sheets?
  1. How often do you have a shower?
  1. Things that irritate you. Where everyone comes on and says the same thing as if they just invented it, eg The X Factor, sniffing, people who say “should of and would of” etc.
  1. Workplace problem - from a smelly colleague to someone trying to take credit for your project. I cannot get enough of these.
  1. Something interesting happening in a cafe - preferably as it happens, involving bagging a table before queuing for food.
  1. What to buy at Aldi.
  1. How to pronounce Esme.

How about you?

The weekly thread asking why people without children post on Mumsnet. As if it's never occured to anyone else.

Or asking why people NC.

lucymegan · 24/05/2019 10:16

How many times do you change your pjs?

Do you wear knickers to bed?

How often do you change your bedding?

Sparklingbrook · 24/05/2019 10:18
  1. The 'All posters on MN are bitches and hiding behind a screen, wouldn't say stuff they do in RL' etc threads. Bingo points for 'pack mentality' being mentioned.
  1. Newish posters suggesting a 'Like' Button. Bingo points for suggesting MN needs to be the same as every other site on the internet/old fashioned etc.
  1. Cat poo in the garden. Same thread every time, mentions of getting a dog to rip the cat to bits and bingo points for saying 'you have to pick up dog poo so why not cat poo' and stating it's no different.
  1. Shoes on/off in the house. bingo points for 'do you have pets' and 'my outfit is not complete without my heels'.

But you have to go a long way to beat a reclining seats on aircraft thread. Pure gold.

Butterymuffin · 24/05/2019 10:20

The 'should I pay the charge for booking seats all together on a plane or assume that they won't seat my toddler in the row behind' ones.

TheQueef · 24/05/2019 10:24

It's almost the weekend, time for...
DC trapped a finger AIBU to call an air ambulance ................and it's counterpart
DC has decapitated his sister shall I wait for GP on Monday or go to the walk in?
I love reading mnet medical adbice.

Guerlainista · 24/05/2019 10:25

Should I go to A&E?

Is this a red flag?

The answer is ALWAYS yes.

NewAccount270219 · 24/05/2019 10:26

While the actual sleep board is normally ok - a bit quiet, but ok - anything about baby/toddler sleep on AIBU or chat devolves into a hideous argument where one half are claiming that the other have emotionally abused their children who will have attachment disorder because they cried a bit at night, while the other half insist that it's those people who are abusive because they haven't 'taught their children to sleep', as if it's like reading.

They're always disastrous, always the same, and never edifying - but for some reason I always end up reading them, and often end up participating Blush even though I know no one involved will change their mind, ever

Sparklingbrook · 24/05/2019 10:26

Oh yes, and a BH weekend no less.

People making noise in gardens at 8am, BBQs, cycling-everyone will be irritated by everything. Grin

TrendyNorthLondonTeen · 24/05/2019 10:28

"A dog sniffed my child in the street. AIBU to nuke them all from space?"

Something about weight where someome tells the OP that they're obese at a size 6.

WhatchaMaCalllit · 24/05/2019 10:30

I think one of the best recurring thread on MN is the carpet fitter one...guaranteed to pop up every now and again, when you least expect it, as someone will have done a search on MN for previous threads and not realized that that one is a zombie thread and they resurrect it for old times sake.
I know that's not exactly what you're looking for OP but it's all I've got Smile

PuppyMonkey · 24/05/2019 10:30

Oh yes, I do enjoy a medical emergency thread too. Might have to make this very thread recurring so I can add new things each time.Grin

OP posts:
WhatchaMaCalllit · 24/05/2019 10:31

@TrendyNorthLondonTeen - Are you referring to nuking all dogs or all children?

PuppyMonkey · 24/05/2019 10:32

The zombie threads are great - the amount of times I’m just about to comment, then luckily I notice I already did comment three years ago...

"At what age...?" threads.

At what age can/should I leave my child home alone/ allow them to walk to school/ allow them to play out mainly, though there are others.

Yep, I get drawn in an they crop up almost weekly.

In reality the answer is "how long is a piece of string?" There is no right answer because it depends where you live, on the local infrastructure/ area / your relationship with your neighbors etc etc as well as on your child's intrinsic nature and more importantly whether you've prepared them on an ongoing basis over a long period of time or babied them into a state of learned helplessness.

Also school uniform threads.

What surprises me with both is that they can go in such absolutely opposite directions. One week it seems that the "Mumsnet" user community appear to be strongly of one opinion, and the next week it's a landslide of polar opposite opinions, depending who sets the tone (probably depends partly on time of day the posts start).

thefuriousfuggler · 24/05/2019 12:29

The invite specifically states no gifts, what gift should I take?
Cue loads of posters recommending a "token" gift whatever that is

vampirethriller · 24/05/2019 12:30

Would you eat this chicken/ham/rice, 20 people say Yes but one person always got dengue fever from looking sideways at a piece of two day old ham and died twice so wouldn't touch it.

PlausibleSuit · 24/05/2019 12:37

I like these:

OP: HONEST opinions pls: should I call my child [EsotericName]?

MN: No, it's shit

OP: FUCK YOU ALL AND THE HORSES YOU RODE IN ON

MN: But you asked...

OP: Well WE love it

DizzySue · 24/05/2019 12:41

I love a good CF or Bridezilla thread!

I have never seen a thread asking why people who don't have children post on MN, ever. So bit confused why posters saying this crops up a lot?

MissKittyCat · 24/05/2019 12:42

The 'I don't understand why people like/do/have xxxxx' threads.

Some people will agree with the OP and the others will point out that everyone is different and don't all have the same likes/expectations/time or financial constraints

managedmis · 24/05/2019 12:42

Love a cheeky fucker MIL thread.

How's my diet thread.. Can't get enough.

Supermarket threads I. E. how much is your weekly shop etc.

The a and e ones.

The old saving tables in cafes one.

Anything about not being able to say no to giving people lifts, using your lawnmower, sleeping with your husband etc etc.

DizzySue · 24/05/2019 12:44

OP: AIBU?

Entire MN jury: YABU

OP: no I'm not! (continues to drip feed)

Entire MN jury: YABVU

OP: you are all wrong! (Flounces off and gets thread deleted)

Sparklingbrook · 24/05/2019 12:57

(Flounces off and gets thread deleted)

Followed closely by a TAAT asking why MNetters are all so mean.

NewYoiker · 24/05/2019 13:17

My child is 128 months old and people judge me when they cry in the street 😭

Coquillage · 24/05/2019 13:19

OP: What word do you hate

My favourite stealthy look-how-middle-class I am threads are the shoes on/ off in the house ones.
