Scar treatment suggestions

Good evening everyone, posting here for traffic.

I have a scar on my shoulder from surgery. I am looking for recommendations on what might be useful to help minimise it over time, I expect of course no miracles. I've heard bio-oil is good, but wondering what other people have used on their scars. As I say, I dont expect a miracle but even a wee improvement would be nice.

Thank you for any suggestions!

Silicone tape from amazon. I've had surgery and my surgeon has said it's his policy for his patients to wear medical grade silicone tape for 6 months post surgery.

kelo cote scar gel, recommended by plastic surgeons

I've been told bio oil & press hard when rubbing it in to help make the scar flat.

I have a huge scar down my stomach (open surgery) and I tried all sorts of things (Bio-Oil, Jo Malone Vitamin E cream). I spent a fortune. Nothing made a difference as it's a big, long keloid scar. I used to be really uncomfortable getting changed in the gym as I was worried people would be grossed out by it and I didn't want them to be upset.

These days the colour has faded and I've learnt to embrace it as it's part of me. It doesn't even cross my mind unless someone mentions scars (at which I normally pull up my top and say "I'll show you a scar!"). If anyone asks, I say I was in a knifefight. They look stunned and then I fall around laughing and tell them the truth.

I am no help - I have (probably) the same scar as HundredMilesAnHour - and another abdominal one from subsequent related surgery - and have tried everything without success. I fear they will always be purple, lumpy and painful.

On the other hand I have also had 2x shoulder surgery and those scars faded, in time, without any special measures. Hope you find something that works for you.

Thank you very much everyone.

I'll try the kelo cote stuff. Apparently its not greasy so won't be annoying in any way. I've had silicone strips in the past but they are a pain in the arse to keep up, the area the scar is is a bit of a nightmare to get to to stick the strips on.

I’d highly recommend seeing a physio who does scar tissue work. I was sceptical but had it recommended to me and my abdominal scars have improved greatly after 2 sessions with the physio. I could even see an improvement at the end of the first session.

Dermatix and vitamin e oil worked really well on my facial scar (from surgery)
