Does anyone have a genuine work from home job?

I don't need to work at the moment but would like a job I could do from home that I can actually earn a bit of cash with. I'm currently suffering with crippling anxiety and the thought of going to a job interview terrifies me. Just wondering if there were any genuine work from home jobs out there?

I did admin from home (data entry etc and research) for a software company

Also a freelance translator - OP do you speak another language?

@AtSea1979 and OP check whether your local college offers NCFE Distance Learning course - if so, they need people to mark those courses. The people that mark those courses for my local college do it from home. Let me know if you want me to PM you with a link - don't want to out myself by putting a link to my local college on here.

Sorry - just realised I didn't answer the question - it is all year round

yes I’m a copywriter, I work for myself. But I had to stop for a while when I was bad with anxiety as I have to get all my own work, put myself out there constantly and still take business calls/go to meetings. There’s no one to delegate to either!
Not trying to put you off but often think a home based role solves a lot of those kinds of problems but for me, it’s actually the opposite when I’m feeling anxious.
I do love what I do though and would struggle to go back into an office now.

Aberforthsgoat · 23/05/2019 23:32

Should have mentioned, I still have to go for “interviews” for new work so people can see I can do what I say I do and we both need to make sure we are a good fit, so it would t necessarily skip that step. I have to pitch for work a lot too.
Hope you’re getting support for your anxiety, I’ve found therapy really helps with mine x

OP if you're interested in translation then there's loads of free content about how to get started online. Look at some Youtube tutorials for a start.

Thanks everyone for your help. I'm just not keen on letting my partner be the sole earner while I sit there feeling like a failure for being too anxious to work

If you have any admin experience then take a look at People People Per Hour. I am starting to get into the VA business and have picked up some work from there.

The company I work for doesn't have offices so we're all home-based (boutique travel company).

Working from home is in no way an easy ride and needs to be approached in much the same way you would any office-based employment IMO, though I can't speak for all sectors as this is the first time I've wfh.

I'm not having a dig, I just get a lot of people thinking I can get away with skiving / putting the washing on/ meeting friends for lunch in the middle of my working day when it's absolutely not the case. There is some flexibility, but for the most part I still 'go to work', it's just my commute is much shorter.

I run my own business, mostly it's an online shop and I sell items I have designed and made/had manufactured. Currently not earning a huge amount but I know many who make their full time income from selling something online - whether that's their own brand products, handmade, or something they have bought in and are reselling (wholesale, or vintage pieces etc.). You will need to invest a bit of money initially but you could start small and build it up.

I'm also exploring options for setting up as a virtual assistant/offering social media etc. services for other businesses. It's quite competitive with lots of people already doing this though so will take a while to build up.

I also suffer from anxiety and staying at home is a big help. Dealing with commuting and being away from home are big anxiety triggers for me.

I'm another anxious mess. I do specialist proofreading from home, although it stems from ten years or so of university teaching.
