To think there's something wrong with me?

I've come to realise I live in my own world. I can't remember anything like someone will tell me something and 30 seconds later I can't remember one bit of the conversation. I also can't hear anything

Anyone?

Can you explain a bit more?

CallyMollyMindy · 23/05/2019 21:41

well I just have very poor memory and recall like 30 seconds after a conversations I'll forget ever having it.

Can you give a bit more information about your past? Have you always been this way? Any examples? Has anyone said anything to you?

ThatCurlyGirl · 23/05/2019 22:19

This sounds like when I have absence seizures - part of my epilepsy. I am trying to listen and genuinely concentrating, zone out for maybe up to 20 seconds then I'm back in the room. But outwardly I just look a bit vacant so people don't realise what's happened. Hard to explain! Might be worth having a google and seeing if it could be anything like that x

ThatCurlyGirl · 23/05/2019 22:20

Meant to say my epilepsy was caused by brain damage in a car crash - have you had any head trauma that you know of?

tobypercy · 23/05/2019 22:42

are you interested in what they're telling you?
If not then it's no surprise it goes straight out the other year.

If you're actively listening but can't remember then I'd consider talking to your GP

tobypercy · 23/05/2019 22:43

"I also can't hear anything"?

Well if you can't hear it then you won't remember? Or am I missing the point there?

ThatCurlyGirl · 23/05/2019 22:55

Hmm this really does sound similar to absence seizures - they don't make you fall over or anything just go vacant because your brain is having a type of seizure. I think it's worth looking into at least but may well be something else of course.

Hope you find some answers - visit your GP and make sure you tell them it's happening frequently / increasingly frequently and tell them if it started at a particular time or a recent one.

If it's daily and increasing then they might send you for an MRI (I have to have them about once a month at the moment and promise they aren't as scary as they sound, I fell asleep in the last two!) just to rule a few things out.

Definitely see doc though and don't play it down or say it's less frustrating than it is. Does it affect work? Holding conversations? Maintaining new information? They should ask questions along these lines IMO x

I feel a bit similar to you - I keep a log of people’s families/events in their lives in my notes on my phone. Sounds weird but it is the only way I can remember about people and hold a decent conversation next time I see them. I find it hard to follow conversations if I’m not passionate about the subject - I’m interested in serious things not celeb news etc. I’m otherwise a very successful human being so I don’t worry about it too much, but people think I’m a bit dizzyConfused

Jon65 · 23/05/2019 23:09

How old are you Op?

CallyMollyMindy · 24/05/2019 14:39

I used to have a cracking memory and be sharp. I'm early 30s single parent to 1 People in work notice a blank expression on my face I'm sure

Depression can be a cause of the symptoms you describe. Is that a possibility?

CallyMollyMindy · 25/05/2019 10:03

sorry I'm drip feeding here probably because I've frigging forgotten! I've been on fluxeotine on and off for years. I've just left an unhappy marriage so maybe that's a reason?

NoBaggyPants · 25/05/2019 10:11

Antidepressants can cause these symptoms, I had similar. But also epilepsy and depression itself. If you're concerned see your GP.

dontgobaconmyheart · 25/05/2019 11:14

Anti depressant can cause 'spaced out' feelings OP, but I would see a GP and just discuss with them- perhaps you are deficient in something, a low thyroid etc- could be any one of many minor things or nothing physical at all 🙂. Let the GP assess it. And get a hearing test!
