Holiday Ideas Anyone?

We are supposed to be going away at the end of June. The plan was to take our campervan to the Lake District (from the South East) with DS who will be almost 10 months.

Unfortunately DH has had a life altering injury and it is looking like he will still not be able to drive by then as he was given some slightly bad news at his consultant appointment today. He doesn’t want to be driven around (and finds long car journeys uncomfortable presently), and I’m also not insured to (and don’t particularly want to) drive the van.

DH is fairy miserable and I’m now feeling a bit glum about not being able to do anything for our first family holiday now.

I just can’t think of anything that we could do that is within our (basically nonexistent) budget that won’t involve lots of driving and will still be entertaining. Usually we do lots of cycling, hiking, running, swimming, exploring etc. And whilst we could do some walking, the rest is a bit limited at present.

Could you look for a caravan site/ hotel/ cheap b&b that's near a train station on the coast?

Should be able to do taxi at the other end or walk to accommodation depending on distance.

Just spending the days sat on the beach, reading, short walks, lovely coffee and cake stops, reading when DS naps, some sightseeing?

If you let me know roughly where you are, how far you'd travel and budget including travel, I'll have a look if you like?

sorry to hear about your DH. could you do a city break? maybe something like St Albans in hertfordshire? Its a market town (with markets on saturdays and wednesdays) but it has lots of green spaces, a roman museum, a clock tower that you can climb up, an abbey etc. so would be nice to walk around, do some shopping, sightseeing. there are numerous bed and breakfasts around, such as wren lodge which has breakfast included in the price. all the best x

Have a holiday at home. You have to be serious about it to make it fun. No appointments, no errands, no opening of post, no cleaning, etc. Eat out as often as you would on holiday, go walking, have a date night if you can get a sitter.
We had to do this once due to some unexpected circumstances when our eldest was 3. We ended up having a great time.

We’re close to Brighton.

Lake District was already a compromise on what we had planned (DH was entered into a race abroad that he can obviously no longer do) so this is a real kick in the teeth.
