A Universal Credit One!

I can't find the answer to this one anywhere so if anyone could help I'd be very grateful! I am self employed and claim Tax Credits. I would like to pick up a part time, employed job and continue to run my business. Can anyone tell me whether becoming employed part time (as well as remaining self employed part time) would trigger a move to UC? I'd like to avoid this as I will be much worse off under UC. TIA

No, it wouldn't trigger a move to UC.

Thanks baggy. May I ask if you know that from experience?

You get moved to UC if you would have previously claimed a legacy benefit. That’s not the case so you won’t be moved.

We were bimbling along on tax credits and just got told we had to move to UC. Nothing changed, the job centre staff just told DH we had to claim UC.
That could be because of where we live though, we're in a "test" area and everyone is being made to go to UC.

MyDcAreMarvel · 23/05/2019 17:06

PomBear are you in Harrogate?

MyDcAreMarvel · 23/05/2019 17:06

Because the managed migration there is optional , you can decline.

MyDcAreMarvel · 23/05/2019 17:08

Actually that’s July I think. There are currently no areas where people have to be moved to UC with no change in circumstances.
Your dh was lied to.

Thank you. I’m hoping to remain on TC until I’m forced to move!

We are in Hartlepool and nothing changed. They just said he "wasn't doing enough job search" so we had to claim UC.
It's been a bit of a nightmare tbh, we have been basically royally fucked over by it all Confused
