If you have your eyelashes done

I'm going on holiday in three weeks would love to have my lashes done but I'm nervous.

How long are the appointments? I get very anxious meeting new people especially on my own and being there for a long time.

Any where from an hour to three! I feel asleep once!

I love them when they are done (if the are not irritating the fuck out of my eye) but always end up with bald eye lids when they fall out

MumOfTwoMasterOfNone · 23/05/2019 11:00

For holiday I'd definitely recommend an LVL treatment and as it's your own lashes, there's no falling or growing out issues. They don't need to be maintained either like individual false lashes

MumOfTwoMasterOfNone · 23/05/2019 11:01

That treatment is about 50 minutes

As above - depending on the complexity of the lashes being applied anywhere from an hour to 3. Be careful with them on holiday though, you need to not get them wet / sun cream on them or they come out really easily. I’ve fallen asleep as well when I’ve had them done, it’s quite relaxing if you can zone out.

theydontknowweknow · 23/05/2019 11:45

Mine usually take around 90 mins and find it really relaxing, I've nodded off a couple of times. You just need to not get the wet for the first 24 hours at least and then don't put sun cream near your eyes when on holiday.

mrsanxietyx · 23/05/2019 12:47

Ah I don't know whether to bother so can you get them wet after 24 hours? I'm going to Barbados so going to be in the water a lot.

mrsanxiety I have them on permanently so for a holiday would get them infilled just before we went (they last 2-3 weeks) but done by a salon I KNEW were good and had used in the past. Some lashes are applied better than others and last longer. I avoid getting mine wet and just brush them with the little comb thing. Others might get theirs wet but I just do everything to try and make them last.

If you are going in 3 weeks you could put them on now, then book into get them topped up just before you went which would give you a few weeks to see if you thought they were worth it.

Alternatively, people do swear by the lift and Tint instead. I love the dramatic look so it’s no good for me though!

MsFenellaFielding · 23/05/2019 13:13

Female Do you mean ALL your own eyelashes come out too?

I really fancy trying them but don't fancy that!

twirlypoo · 23/05/2019 13:21

Not ALL lashes come out, but if I take mine out I am pretty sparse. I’ve had them in for about 3 years none stop now though..... I had one experience about 5 years ago where I literally had about 10 lashes on each eye. I stopped wearing them for a few months to give them a break, and they are coping much better these days!

GinTimeAtHome · 23/05/2019 13:39

I swear by a Lash Lift. I have them done for big occasions eg weddings, holidays etc. Takes about an hour and lasts for 6-8 weeks.

If I want a bit more drama I put on my benefit mascara.

Femalebornandbreed · 23/05/2019 13:46

MsFenellaFielding I’d say about 70% on the last lot.

I could feel them on and absentmindedly picked a few off. Then I had odd lengths. Some fell out due to swimming and sun tan lotion.

They look great when they are first done but for me it’s not worth the hassle after. I had to buy eye lash repair and grow thing to try and sort them out. I looked like a mole Grin

PlanBea · 23/05/2019 14:41

I second LVL, I've had it done a few times for holidays/special occasions (including my wedding). Took an hour and they looked fab, just enough for me!

alltoomuchrightnow · 23/05/2019 14:56

Mine always took around 1 hour and 50 minutes. Found it hard to lie still for that long (or sit still) as am a very itchy person. always have to scratch face etc, was v self conscious of that

TheHodgeoftheHedge · 23/05/2019 15:06

Ooooh I'm glad you posted about this. I was thinking about some for a wedding i'm attending abroad. I would normally have falsies on for a big occasion but because of the heat and humidity out there, I don't want them to fall off after 2 mins ;)
I honestly don't know where to start though with knowing what I want and the ins and outs of having them done.

DeeDee1122 · 23/05/2019 15:14

Hey hun, get Novalash - water and oil don't effect them at all, they can be wet immediately!!! A classic set is an hr long apt, a volume is about 2. I've been getting them for ages - no irritation, lashes underneath have no damage and they look amazing!! Also no need to be anxious, I just lie there and relax - no awkward chat!!!

Nesssie · 23/05/2019 15:16

I just get mine tinted, makes it looks like you are wearing mascara but not too over the top, cheaper, quicker and ideal for sweaty, water based holidays.

DeeDee1122 · 23/05/2019 15:17

If ure in Northern Ireland I go to an amazing girl in Belfast- if not I think u can Google novalash and see who applies locally.

HappinessIsKey · 23/05/2019 15:21

Can you not just use strip lashes yourself?

I have worked in the beauty industry for many years, and understand for a wedding etc..brides having individual lashes on. But they don't last very long at all! They will no way last a whole holiday, in and out of the pool etc..taking make up off. You have to be so careful with them! If they get wet, they can dry in a different position. You will be heart broken when some of them fall off, and then your eyes can look dodgy..long lashes in places and then gaps where some have come off.

Honestly strip lashes are amazing!! Every therapist I know uses strip lashes! So easy to put on, a fraction of the price and you can re use them over and over again!

I would never recommend individuals to somebody that is going on holiday.
It will be a waste of money xx

DoingItForTheKids · 23/05/2019 15:27

I had them done for holiday in January and have had them regularly topped up since them. I haven't had any problems anyone else has mentioned. I went on holiday for a week, they lasted the whole time, however, I don't wear any other eye makeup with them on so I don't need to use eye makeup remover. I double cleanse though (one with oil) and they were still ok. The eye lash brush they give you is a life saver, helps you comb them back into shape after sleeping etc.

I always make sure they stay dry and don't have any make up remover near them for a good 24 hours.

Like you, I hate small talk, but I just close my eyes and don't talk. If they ask me questions I give very brief responses. They soon get the message and leave you to it!

TheHodgeoftheHedge · 23/05/2019 15:59

@HappinessIsKey do you have any recommendations for strip lashes/glue? Because mine always seem to peel off early...or maybe i'm just not good at it

HappinessIsKey · 23/05/2019 19:36

@TheHodgeOfTheHedge..all the therapists I know including myself swear by Eylure lashes.
It's the very last thing you do, even after mascara. Do all your makeup first and then get your strip lashes out. Just make sure they fit your eye properly!! A couple of lashes might need cutting off. I always cut from the outer end of the eye.
I then apply a thick layer of the glue, wait 30 seconds and then place the strip on, with tweezers. I then carefully press my own lashes and the false lashes together, with my fingers (if that makes sense) so they look very natural and blend in with my own.

And that's it! I take them off every night, then take off all my makeup. I reuse mine endless times..and I sleep very very well, knowing I'm not squashing my lashes when I'm sleeping flat out on my tummy 😂

People say now it's easier to put the glue on your lash line first and then pop the strip onto the glue..maybe that's worth a shot? I have just done it the same way for years, so set in my ways!!

It might take a few attempts to become super fast at putting them on. But at least you have the comfort of your own home to fiddle around with them..
Just watch YouTube videos, there hundreds out there on how to do it.

There are lots of different styles in Boots etc..I would recommend no.88..these are very natural, or if you want a fuller thicker look for evening maybe no.101 😊
