Cat Shit

Does anyone else have this problem? I feel like my garden is unusable because of cat shit. We get various patches of cat shit for a while and manage to sort one problem out and they just move on to another part of the garden.

Just been out and my child's sandpit which I spent ages (and money) refilling last summer- the cover has blown off and they have shit (shat?!) all over it. I'm assuming this means I'm going to have to chuck the sand away.

My neighbours are lovely. I love my street but they own several cats between them who just use my garden as a toilet. Really really wish people would either keep their cats indoors or just not have cats.

We are a bit skint just now so I can't be planting lots of cat repellant plants or anything. The gardens large and a funny shape (took a stretch to buy this house). If it was any other pest I'd be at the point of laying traps.

There are tons of threads on this subject with lots of suggestions on if you search.

We had this problem too. The only way we solved it was with deterrent alarms and a motion sensor jet spray and spiked rubber matting in the flowerbeds.

You have my sympathy though, it’s disgusting.

According the most cat owners cats are super clean and bury their own shit. It's total bollocks.

Years back my house was the only house in the street without a cat it seemed. Every neighbourhood cat would use my garden as a toilet. It stank to high heaven and was totally unusable. Even gardening was a biohazard,

I'm afraid the only way we have (nearly) stopped it is to get a dog.

Sorry, not too helpful. If you google there a hundreds of things you can try from cut citrus fruit to plants they hate. Good luck.

Thanks. It's good to know I'm not alone on this one.

I can't let my little one out to play at all without me at the moment.

I just keep thinking if this was mice/rats/foxes I'd be taking much more drastic action. I've got a water spray jet think to install today and have a few cat sensors but as the garden is a U shape with various bits going off in random directions they aren't covering the whole garden.

A friend got foxes out the garden by peeing around the outside of their garden. It's getting tempting!

Birds keep shitting on my car.

Wish all animals would become extinct so that we didn't have to put up with their crap! They have no respect for land ownership and trespass all the time. We are the superior beings and we deserve a nice outdoor space (concrete patio and plastic grass) without having to be faced with nature ffs.

BTW irl I know of someone who poisoned a neighbours cat for shitting in her pots. I absolutely understand the irritation, but seriously.

WeedsAndMoss · 23/05/2019 13:45

MrsMustdobetter would we let dogs do the same? These are not wild animals, these are pets. Between two houses close to me they have six cats. Both houses have plants that apparently cats don't like. But it's ok for them to shit all over my child's play equipment. We don't have cats because I'm seriously allergic to them.

I think you are overreacting. I fully intend to plant out things which will encourage birds and insects when I have the money but whilst my garden is being used as a toilet in a massive way I can't do so.

I did say that I understand the irritation.

To be fair my neighbour's dog poops on my front lawn, but I can't complain because my cats craps in her flowerbeds.

It would be cruel to keep a cat indoors imo (although I'm aware that many posh cats are).

You could get a sprinkler or a water pistol?

You can buy electric deterrents that emit a sound only cats can here. Failing that you need a sharp grit that their paws will find uncomfortable.
