I’ve just read the books and watched the TV adaptations, though I can’t find the first series online.

What did you think of the TV versions?

Also, from book 3 - was sacking Robin part of the plan? To keep her out of the way?

And I think the police went round to Donald Laing’s flat, but I thought it was supposed to be bare apart from a bed and the fridge etc. Where did they sit?

Ooh just did a search not expecting to find a current thread Smile.

I saw the TV adaptation when they were on and just read Lethal White off the back of those...absolutely loved it, and have now got my mitts on all three of the other books and as of last night am 200 page into The Cuckoo's Calling.

I think the books are better than the TV series in that there is more detail and more nuance and background to the characters' relationships, but it's so well cast I'll happily watch them again...Tom Burke as Strike is just delicious!

Yes he’s great Minty I’d not heard of him before, now having a look at what else he’s been in.

Me too!

Musketeers and War and Peace on BBC (on iPlayer) seem to be the main ones.

He's playing John Rosmer in Rosmerholm at the Duke of York's in London until 20th July. I've managed to wrangle a mate and we've got very good seats...can't wait!

Amazing! Sadly I’m not in London. I hope it’s good!

They are great reads JKR is a great story teller. I thought the TV adaptation was better than the TV adaptation of A Casual Vacancy

MintyCedric · 01/06/2019 13:07

Hazel

I've not read TCV but enjoyed the TV version.

I'm thoroughly enjoying rewatching The Cuckoo's Calling now that I've read the book, but think the book is better. There is so much good stuff missing from the adaptation (and they've got his leg wrong - it's right in the book, left on the telly!).

I can't imagine how they are going to do Lethal White in just 4 episodes and am a bit surprised they aren't making longer versions, given the following JKR and the books have.

SimonJT · 01/06/2019 13:10

I quite like the books, despite having one leg, being over weight with pube like hair and a squashed nose he comes across as very attractive. I haven’t watched the TV version and probably won’t, they’re usually a disappointment:

MintyCedric · 01/06/2019 13:13

He is very attractive in the TV series, albeitin an appropriately battered and damaged kind of way!

fedup21 · 01/06/2019 16:50

Is the TV series available to watch again on anything?

PatriciaCarmichael · 01/06/2019 17:38

fedup I found the silkworm and career of evil on YouTube.

Tom Burke as Strike is incredibly attractive, I’ve watched the tv series more often than I should..

I can’t read the books though, really not a fan of JKRs writing style.

MintyCedric · 02/06/2019 01:20

Kernob I am not a JKR fan per se at all. Enjoyed the first four Potter films but lost interest from 5 onwards and never got on with the books at all. Really can't understand why adults would read them personally but each to their own.

I've ploughed through TCC and and 2/3 way through The Silkworm since Wednesday evening.

Have also just rewatched TCC bit am making myself read each book before watching the TV version.

I suspect I will also be watching them far more than I should WinkGrin!

MintyCedric · 02/06/2019 01:22

...also the benefit of reading the books after watching the series is that you have Tom Burke in your head all the while you're reading!
