Dame Reusable Tampon Applicator

Has anyone used the above? I saw it in Waitrose earlier.

I'm finding it harder and harder to get the applicator tampons I like, I assume they are trying to phase out the plastic applicators.

This is the website:

wearedame.co

Before anyone points it out, I can't get on with a cup or non-applicator tampons

First I've seen of these. It says to just rinse and wipe. But I would've thought, like the mooncup, it may need to be sterilised occasionally?

Sorry, no help to you!

Hopeful bump

Hi there,
I’ve owned the Dame applicator for a couple of periods. I had previously used compak pearl applicator tampons but liked the idea of cutting down on waste.

My first reaction was that the dame applicator looked quite big for such a teeny tampon - and I’d ordered their ‘plus’ size tampon!

My first few goes I found a bit tricky - I felt like a fumbling teenager rather than the 40 yr old period veteran I am, and a couple of times the tampon was getting stuck in the tip of the applicator, or if I did manage to fire it up there, it felt as though it wasn’t pushed in as far as was usually comfortable for me, meaning I had to adjust into place using a finger (ugh).

I’m getting better at it - managed to use it more successfully since though really have to feel like I’m pushing it as high as it’ll go- either it could do with being a bit longer or more likely I have a long, echoing fanjo.

I have one and I also found it doesn't push them in far enough unfortunately.
It's quite a faff.
I can use non applicator tampons, but prefer applicator.
I wanted to love this I really did but it falls short and is really quite expensive for what it is.

Yes, we said antimicrobial. D contains advanced Saniconcentrates™ that work on a molecular level giving the Mediprene® material antiseptic and antimicrobial characteristics

These properties last D's lifetime and the materials are proven by test according to ISO 22196 and JIS Z 2801 standard

From the website,no need to sterilise.

It looks quite ... chunky!

Don't understand the 'ugh' at having to insert a tampon.

user87382294757

Might not be anything to do with 'urgh' and more to do with ease.

user87382294757 · 06/06/2019 14:03

But then you have to carry this thing around and wash it etc? In a public washroom? Am I missing something as that doesn't found very easy. Also tampons are small how is it not easy to insert them? I'm genuinely asking- i just don't get it. Surely if it possible to insert Mooncups etc it is easy enough to put tampons in.

user87382294757 · 06/06/2019 14:07

Checked the website - it looks quite fiddly and says you need to wash it out and dry it with paper towels? I think that might be a bit weird in a public toilet, maybe just me though. With Mooncup it advises you take in a bottle of water to wash it out so i guess that might be an option.

LoafofSellotape · 06/06/2019 16:24

People find things easier/ harder than others and people are different shapes and sizes. If everyone was able to use the same thing there wouldn't be such a variety of sanitary wear.

user87382294757 · 06/06/2019 17:02

But surely most of us have had sex or given birth. So why does putting a wee thing like a tampon up there cause problems. I'm guessing it might feel cleaner (not using a finger) and that could be a bonus. But if you then have to carry round the application in a tin that might get a bit grim. maybe you can get some kind of wipes or spray to clean it in a toilet cubicle.

LoafofSellotape · 06/06/2019 17:05

Lots of women who have had children can't use tampons at all, everyone is different.

user87382294757 · 06/06/2019 17:08

I would think, if not able to use tampons, then this thing which seems much bigger, might make things worse? Not sure. Do you mean like they might have a prolapse and no room for a tampon? I don't quite understand.

LoafofSellotape · 06/06/2019 17:09

No,I mean lots of women who have given birth find tampons very uncomfortable to use for a variety of reasons.

eurochick · 06/06/2019 20:43

I can never get non applicator tampons to sit correctly. I like the old style cardboard applicator tampax but they are becoming difficult to find.

moanyhole · 06/06/2019 21:48

I can't insert a tampon with my finger. Like eurochick it doesn't sit right and I can feel it. I dare better with applicator ones but this sounds too much of a faff. I use aldi applicator tampons. The applicator bit is cardboard

JoshLymanIsHotterThanSam · 06/06/2019 22:15

Eurochick...as a long time user of non applicator I think that people who struggle are often not angling far enough back. Occasionally I go too upright and have to sweep round to get it to go towards the back. They are a bit of a practise makes perfect thing.

I think people are urgh at non applicator because of bloody fingers but it’s never really bothered me.

user87382294757 · 07/06/2019 08:38

Does anyone find the tampons which come with the cardboard applicators to not be as good though? They don;t seem to absorb as well. For example Lillets type ones do, but the others don't as well.

Humptydont · 07/06/2019 09:34

I meant ‘ugh’ as in - oh great, I’m in a public toilet, usually squeezed in with a toddler and now have to go rooting about with blood on my finger because the planet-saving applicator I forked out £25 for has turned out to be a total chode and I can’t sucessfully deploy the tampon up where it’s meant to go. What a faff!
