Spilled coffee down cooker vent?

I have used the cooker twice since, and there is always a strong burning like smell… Please tell me this is not the end of the world and it will go away. By the way, I think there is coffee over the place where it's filled, I am visually impaired and I have no idea how I should clean it? I don't want to use any chemicals over it, just a damp

I think you are going to need some mr muscle or similar, that will clean it up. If it's any consolation I managed to crack an egg down the back of mine...

Was your cooker OK? I'm worried about the burning smell…

OK, and Mr. muscle on a sponge… I'm just worried it's going to go inside of the cooker.

Generally the vents on cookers like that are an exhaust so the element doesn’t get too hot. I imagine the burning smell is coffee caked on something getting very hot (possibly the element itself although I doubt it). What I personally think is likely is that eventually the smell will go away because what is there will eventually burn off.

As you’re visually impaired I wouldn’t suggest you do this yourself, but generally a cooker if it’s fixed in a unit is held in place by 2 or 4 screws on the front visible when you open the oven door. If it’s free standing then it’s generally not fixed in place.

Turn it off at the consumer unit to ensure there’s no risk of electrical shock, and get a friend (someone strong cause they weigh a fair bit and you want to be very careful not to crack the oven glass). Once the cooker is out, then they will be able to look behind and wipe up the coffee.

It is neither a long or complicated process, just a sort of awkward job given your visual impairment. If it’s a free standing unit then whoever does the job may have to unscrew a panel to get to the exhaust space.

Is the smell when you use the hob? It looks like some has gone on the plate. Warm water and a sponge should sort it!

Hellokittymania · 22/05/2019 07:55

Yes, it's when I turn on the hob And even the pan smells a bit strange when I take it off.

Is this any better? I put warm water and a sponge on it.

Yes, it looks fine now. But that's just the top part that's visible. It doesn't tell us anything about what may be under the grille. Sorry I don't know what else to say.

The back bit is clean but you need to do the same on the round hob plate itself, that's likely the part that's burning.
