Farrow and ball in hallway with young children

I'm looking for some advice about whether you think f&b would be OK in a hallway/landing? I much prefer the colours and finish but our painter says it's rubbish in high traffic areas and marks are hard to get out.
What's your experience? I'm hoping it would be fine but also don't want to have to repaint every couple of years!
Thanks

Get the colour you like matched at a Johnstone's Decorator centre in a harder wearing/scrubbable finish as a compromise. It'll be cheaper than F&B.

Grin sorry. Your title sounds like a Music Hall actSmile

Don’t F&B do a more durable version of their paint? I can’t remember what it’s called...

The copies are nothing like the original.
I resigned myself to redoing the stairs every couple of years and having the gorgeous colour and texture, but it lasted well.

moonbabyandthebeast · 21/05/2019 18:00

Definitely not! We moved into a house with it on the hall, stairs and landing, beautiful colour but looked awful with marks not long after we had been there with 2 under 5's and the only way to get rid of the marks is to repaint.

You need the F&B Modern Emulsion as opposed to the Estate Emulsion.

The ‘colour matches’ don’t look the same, whatever decorators try to tell you.

Vintagegoth · 21/05/2019 18:06

I have a feature wall in a low traffic area in a dark colour and it marks like crazy.

holdupthere · 21/05/2019 18:17

I have F&B throughout my downstairs including highly trafficked kitchen/diner/lounge room with three kids and it's so far so good!
Colour matches just aren't the same I'm afraid

our title sounds like a Music Hall act I was trying to work out if it was Cockney rhyming slang for something. Grin

Yes to modern emulsion and also to using their undercoat. In my experience it’s just as durable as any other type of paint I’ve used but decorators often aren’t keen, probably because it needs more coats than than your standard dulux. We had it everywhere in our old house and it’s still looking good 5 years later with tenants living there. We just painted the new place exclusively with F&B and so far so good.

Iggly · 21/05/2019 18:33

I wouldn’t bother to be honest. Our hallways have always ended up being decorated last because they’re constantly trashed by the dcs. I might consider it now they’re 9&7

Fluffycloudland77 · 21/05/2019 18:36

I’ve got the modern emulsion in the kitchen and that’s standing up well. I can scrub it.

Fluffycloudland77 · 21/05/2019 18:39

Although in our decorator centre (where I’ve had to have white tie mixed to Johnstone’s as modern emulsion was too shiny and estate has marked terribly) she reckons Mylands is the best for high traffic areas.

underneaththeash · 21/05/2019 18:40

We have F@B throughout (except playroom), modern emulsion and it's absolutely fine.

CakeNinja · 21/05/2019 18:42

We now have it colour matched because or just get something else. Their colours aren’t particularly one of a kind, most companies sell very similar dupes but we did our hall stairs and landing in F&B (3 floors worth) and it’s worn absolutely dreadfully.
Their modern emulsion stuff still marks if you try and wipe it!! Terrible and won’t buy again, but they do have a nice range of (not terribly original) colours.
Saying that, we have a F&B book at home so it’s the first thing I reach for when choosing paint to get matched.

WillowSummerSloth · 21/05/2019 19:16

Ooh slightly mixed reactions. Thanks everyone

F&B modern emulsion is excellent. I have it in quite a lot of my house including up the stairs and on the landing where the children smear their grubby little hands. I just wipe it clean every now and again and it looks great.

vinoandbrie · 21/05/2019 20:23

Another vote for F&B modern emulsion in the hall / stairs / landing.

And tonight, Ladies and Gentlemen, we are pleased to bring you the long established and well loved Farrow and Ball. Appearing in The Hallway with young children, Dove Grey and Pigeon's Breath. Hope u found something suitable Smile
